I mean the game was well in hand and there was no reason to risk injury to anyone else let alone Brees, so why were they still in??? I just remember that being the one negative aspect of the game.

Any thoughts???

To run out the clock. It's an attitude that being up 3 TDs (+ FG) on a team as good as the Cowboys, even in the 4th, is not a win. We saw what the Titans did against the Giants in the 4th. The kept Brees in to run the offense, Deuce in to pound the ball and milk the clock, and they closed. It's an aggressive approach and I like it. The Saints closed the deal in the 4th instead of letting up.

I don't know. Maybe he wanted them to be in there to enjoy the kneel down time. Little risk of injury there.

As someone mentioned. To run out the clock.

Final drive was 9:58. Keeping the starters in was a way of avoiding injury by greatly shortening the game.

Colston wasnt, after he cramped up he came back in but after we were up 42-17 in the third they sat him...hopefully we will have Colston and Horn....man who am i kidding all we need is Colston!! but hopefully we get both those players back for the home game against the redskins....can you say 12-4?

It's a small criticism on an otherwise perfect night but there was no reason up 25 with under 7 minutes left to keep running Deuce into their defense. Everything worked out find but if there was ever a time for our backups it was last night.

The cowboys officially gave up when they punted on 4th down at about 11 minutes left in the 4th Quarter.

Stecker is hurt I believe. All we have is deuce to pound it. Who would you rather pound with? Reggie?

It was the only thing and the right thing to do.

BTW...did I not tell you I had a feeling something special was going to happen :)

Everyone played last night. Who are you going to take out and who is going to take their place?

Payton might be familiar with the history of the Saints. Regardless of how our team changes, I may never be able to abandon the old "there's still 5 minutes on the clock, and we're only up by 21 points" mentality. I'm in rehab for it.

Woah! 9:58? THAT is very impressive. I never thought about taking our starters out even though it could have been a good thing in order to avoid injuries. I think they should have stayed in to be sure there was no chance of a comeback. Killing the clock with that 9 + minute drive helped insure that it wouldn't happen The reserves prolly couldn't accomplish that type of game ending drive.

You were right my friend and it was the best game a Saints team may have ever played. It's exactly what we needed.

I thought Stecker might be inactive too but hand it to Karney in that case or even Reggie. I just don't understand pounding Deuce into the line one year removed from major knee surgery when the game is over.

We close games now, and I think some of us have to get used to it, that's all.

Well I mean, to do what we did you need the first string O-line and Deuce at RB. Brees and WRs aren't needed but theres no danger of injury for them. Colston was sitting, Brees was just handing off.

Beyond which, we don't even carry 5 backup offensive linemen on the active gameday roster. We usually only carry 3
