Good for him.....I'm glad he was able to shake off that first miss and hit the one that counted the most.

I go into the dome early to watch warmups. Lutz has a great leg. Usually when he miss-hits a kick it is because he struck the ball at the bottom and it results in a wedge shot and not a high iron shot. That was the case with his missed attempt. He definitely worked out that kink on the game winner, though.

I like Lutz. It's still early, but we may have finally found our kicker.

In other news, Brees didn't get the NFC offensive player of the week, somehow.

Da well. Congrats, Lutz. Hope he's on this level for the rest of his career and even better.

Do we give McMahon credit for Lutz hitting the kick, TommyLee's great return, and the incredibly effective punt coverage defense?

Or do we only assign blame when things go wrong?

Way to go Lutz!!!!!

It's funny, we've only played 5 games, and 2 have already come down to a long Lutz kick in the final seconds.

I noticed a short kick or two in warm ups exactly like that. I was hoping it wouldn't happen during the game and sure enough. The dude is obviously talented and I hope we can be patient enough to reap the rewards of developing him.

Would love to see him become that Dan Bailey / Justin Tucker type of kicker for us.

Well played

I watched Lutz warm up in the Raiders game. He hit a 64 yarder... Then after he had the one blocked, he changed something. His kicks had more loft to them and couldn't quite hit the distance he had before. He was hitting closer to 59 or so after he changed trajectory. He may be getting used to the trajectory change still... love this kicker

It is important to remember that he spent last year as both the punter and place kicker at a smaller school without a dedicated special teams coach. He seems to have good fundamentals, but is still a work in progress in terms of applying them consistently.
