on WWL this morning, Gus Kattengil (sp?) reported that they were now hearing that Smith's injury is more severe than has been reported, and that he could be out up to a month. I have not seen this reported anywhere else. I did hear a rumor about this yeaterday from a local orthopedist who said that Smith has a slight fracture. I didn't report that since it seemed very hearsay-ish. but WWL is a different matter. Anyone else hear anything about Smith?

Wow...hopefully he can make it back for the playoffs.

Thanks for the report Dave. I was listening to Mike & Mike today, so I didn't catch it. #97 (Cooper?) seemed to have that side in check the other day, and as long as we can have Smith back for the playoffs, that's good enough for me. Get well soon Will.

Drink lots of fuilds, listen to your doctor because Will we need you come playoff time.

Yeah, Steve, that Cooper/Whitehead rotation worked out well Sunday.II'm not so sure it will against better teams, especially in those that we're not playing from ahead.

I agree. If it says a month he will probably be back in 2 or 3 weeks.

I think the big concern is gassing Whitehead so that he drops out of the DT rotation. Normally we need Whitehead more at DT then DE, so this has a ripple effect.

We'll probably need to blitz more. At least we'll have Smith for the playoffs.

OUCH! I hope this more specualtion than fact because Will Smith is one of the leaders of our defense, and probably the best guy on the unit. I wish Ninko wasn't hurt too, but good teams overcome injuries.

What is Lake? A DT or a DE? ...or a "tweener" Either way, he's gonna have to step up.

Lake has been playing DT for us. Yeah it just puts more pressure on our reserves Leslie and Lake who haven't been bad. All things considered though i'd rather have the full 5 man rotation with Whitehead. But injuries happen.

One month from today, or a total of one month?

If we are talking a total of 1 month including last week, then perhaps it's three games with a possible return for Carolina???

Details?

While teams have to deal with injuries, and I'm not one to panic, this is one of our four best defenders, along with Grant, Hollis Thomas and McKenzie, and with Harper makes two of our top seven defenders on the shelf, plus Freddy T. still likely has stitches in that thumb, not that he was going to have three picks this week. This is a fairly big loss, Smith is our leading sacker and one of the few playmakers on a D that doesn't have many. He can't come back soon enough.

The Cowboys had lost Greg Ellis, but I don't know who else among their starters on defense.
