Sports is an escape from police brutality, politics, etc.

Yes, most athletes are Black people who have been affected by police brutality, but will the politics and Brees, Malcolm Jenkins, etc. destroy sports, or is it not a big issue as expected?

The thing is, historically, sports has often been in the middle of social issues. From Jackie Robinson to Muhammad Ali, to the protests from the podium in the Olympics, and on and on. Sports isn't some fantasy land. These are real people with real lives and have real issues.

If you want fantasy, go watch a movie.

True, but a lot of people like Boomer Esiason and others don't approve of sports and politics intertwined.

If by sports you mean the NFL, destroy it, I don't think so. It is going to dent it some... but eventually, as it's been with any time of social turmoil, the NFL's future is going to depend on the ideologies and tastes of the younger generations.

No. It’s the same when Kaep started. You saw constant videos of jersey burnings, but it didn’t even make a dent to the League.

Actually, it did make a dent. The league has lost a lot of fans. But, that's not all related the the social justice stuff. Some of it can be attributed to the poor product on the field. The issues with the refs, among other things.

Maybe, but, that's just their opinion. Not gonna stop people from highlighting issues that are important to them.

No. Sports are fun. Most people like fun things

yes probably
what's more it will establish modern dance as the national past time
there will be weekly Ta Nieshi Coates lectures and monthly quizzes - getting anything below a 'C' will result in reparations garnishments
there will be an even greater migration where liberals will only be allowed to live within 15 miles of coastal water (but walkability scores will be off the charts)
conservatives will live in the rectangular states and the main source of income will be monument protection

curse you branch ricky for starting this whole mess

Thankfully, COVID-19 will have prevented any sports for a couple of years, so we can revisit this thread in 2023 or so.
I wish the prospect of sports being on hold for at least a year if not several wasn't a very real possibility, but I think it is.

This is closer to reality than your original question. Politics has always been involved in sports as a few examples in this thread indicate.

If the politics damage the sport, it is because the people in charge (Goodell) screwed the pooch, not the politics itself.

So not politics but people might destroy it, but I still believe Covid has the chance of doing more damage than politics.
