With Cadet's recent struggles, does Lasco get his first taste of the NFL? (1 Viewer)

Cadet be like:

I thought Lasco already had at least 1 offensive snap. I saw him step through the line as a safety valve, but Drew threw it to a receiver. Maybe I misread the number.

I like Lasco because he has what Deuce had. That rare combination of speed and power. I think we can use him with success in this offense. His motor in ST coverage let's me know that he's willing to do whatever it takes to turn heads. Give him a shot and who knows, it might reshape our backfield for the better. I would be happy with just 3 Rbs on the roster. Ingram, Lasco, Murphy. No disrespect to Hightower but I'm looking at youth. And I think that Lasco can provide as much as Tim with those touches.

He should. I'd really like to see him. Dude runs hard.

Don't think I can stand to see another flat route for Cadet only to be dropped for the 7th time.

That route we keep running for Cadet was Lance Moore's route around the goalline that no team could ever stop.

Your eyes didn't deceive you he had one snap. Didn't create any separation on the route to my eyes which means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

With that being said

- Lasco came out of the game on 3rd downs in pre-season
- Lasco has referred to himself as a "power back" implying that he's not viewed the same way as a Cadet or Spiller or Murphy. Also suggesting he'd be more of a backup to Ingram\Hightower than the former.
- Didn't see anything in the pre-season that suggested he could be a receiving threat from the RB position.
-There's an old McDonalds theme "it could happen" that certainly applies here.
-Think theres a higher chance that Murphy would play that role IF we decided to move on from Cadet
-Think Sean Payton sticks with Cadet.

For the exact Lasco quote see below

When told that someone suggested he could be a hybrid fullback, Lasco quickly said, “No, not a fullback. I’m not a fullback. But I am physical, especially now when we’re focusing on [those types of runs in this practice session]. … I’m a power back, almost 215. I can run in the open field when I need to. But if I need to drop the pads, I need to drop the pads.”

This quote in itself kind of speaks to why he's not likely to replace cadet. They use him more like a receiver than runner and as of now Lasco is more runner than receiver based on what I've seen which means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Would have been nice to see Lewis get that target at least once. I bet his YAC would be insane in certain situations.

It's the kind of bubble screens we keep trying to force to Cooks. Cooks has shown multiple times that he is a track meet type player. Get him in open space or behind the defense and he'll out race everyone.

He isn't really a yards after the catch type player, Michael Thomas has most certainly excelled at this though.

If there is one thing I think Lewis could be capable of, it would be shaking a LB out of his shoes.

I think he has more speed than our speed backs, and he has good hands. I think he will be dynamite on screens.

Screens, Flat routes are like extended hand-offs. As the poster above stated they've been using Cadet as a quasi WR and running WR type routes. That's the main reason why I'm skeptical of him replacing Cadets role.

His skillset is that of a bigger CJ Spiller...who for whatever reason was not used in the same manner. I don't even recall ever seeing us Flank Spiller out wide. Yet what i remember means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Just my opinion

Win against the cowboys maybe? or did he come out of the backfield?

Backfield on an out and up if I recall

Dug up another old article for the quote on Payton said he was interested in seeing what he could do in the receiving game. Which gives me the inclination that the evaluation was incomplete in the receiving game and we were hoping there was a little more there.

“I think that Darren’s got this unique quickness that, 10 steps can take place in a second. Spiller can hit the edge and all of sudden go 80,” Payton said. “And you see a [passing game] route tree from Darren that’s pretty encompassing, and then from CJ you see X-number of routes [in how he was used in Buffalo]. So I’m anxious to see some of the things he can do in the passing game.

I think its also worth noting that SP hints at Spiller being in the AFC and them not having much film on him. There was a bit of a WOW factor there and when he came available...they jumped at him.

“He’s physical. He’s the most explosive player on the field a lot of times when you’re watching him. And you know, he’s someone who’s been in the AFC, he’s not someone we see a lot of on film.

It appears his inability to be effective as a quasi WR is what doomed his time here. The "X" amount of routes he ran didn't translate. It's also fair to wonder if he had problems picking up the blocking schemes/blitz pickups.

Took a year for us to work Pierre into the rotation and he started out the same way Lasco did...on ST's. Wouldn't surprise me if his career was on a similar trajectory barring injuries.

I love Lasco. He needs to see some action.

In the meantime, some of Cadet's opportunities should go to Mark Ingram.

Lasco is our special teams ace right now.
