LONDON, Kentucky (AP) - A woman died after being bitten by a snake during a serpent-handling service at church, police said.
Linda Long, 48, of London, Ky, died Sunday at University of Kentucky Medical Center, said Brad Mitchell, a detective with the Laurel County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday. Long died about four hours after the bite was reported, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

I don't get this. Why do some churches think they need to handle snakes, to prove they are a true believer?

I watched a television program on that church. The pastor or priest (or whatever you want to call him) looked like he just climbed down from his cave in the Kentucky hills.

Would that qualify as suicide?

"Look, you picked up a venomous snake and let it bite you. The rules on that sort of thing are pretty clear. Here's your pitchfork, it's the long line on the left. I'd wish you a happy eternity, but well...it won't be."

What kind of poisonous North American snake kills someone that receives prompt medical attention??? Or did she stay to finish the service???

Good question!maybe the snake bit her in the neck or heart area?!?
