METAIRIE - A little more than a month from the NFL draft - and nearly four months to the day before the New Orleans Saints arrive in Jackson, Miss., for training camp - the team began offseason workouts Monday amid renewed expectations.

The reason for the restored optimism following a disjointed 7-9 season are the new faces walking around the Saints' complex.

How the new players fit into the team's plans won't be revealed for a while, but coach Sean Payton made it clear Monday that he's hoping competition for playing time brings out the best in everyone.
