Working from home (Covid 19 edition) (1 Viewer)

A few other things.

This may not apply to you fellas WFH in the short term but treat yourself right. Get a GOOD chair. Get a GOOD monitor. Get a GOOD Mouse. Etc., etc.,.

If you like coffee, get a GREAT coffee maker. Otherwise you’ll go to the local coffee shop and spend too much money. I LOVE my Americanos. Starbucks charges $3 for a grande Americano. Count 50cents to a buck for a tip and then taxes and that cuppa joe gets expensive. I spent $1200 on a GOOD espresso maker and learned to make good espresso. I spent extra for a good grinder. I guestimate it paid for itself in about a year and a half.

There is no such thing as too large when it comes to monitors. I had this 34” LG monitor for 5 years and I‘m thinking of upgrading to a 49” Dell (gotta keep Uncle Dell happy). I can have spreadsheets, Powerpoints, and a couple browser windows open. Of course, with a Mac, switching between multiple desktops is a breeze and lets me get more done.

Love it.

Left my work laptop at the office with remote access, brought one of my monitors home and have it hooked up to my MacBook on the dining room table.

I wake up later, usually at the “desk” around 8 (which is earlier than I’d ever actually get to the office). Eat some sort of breakfast at that time. I get more exercise since I can take my dog for a walk when I want a few minutes away, or hit my stationary bike for a couple. Eat better since I’m able to cook. Netflix on the OLED across the room. Then I nap around 5:15 and stay up a bit late. Oh, and I don’t have to actually interact with another person.

I may have to set up an actual computer desk at some point though, the high top table isn’t exactly the most comfortable arrangement.

Still in the office working 3x12. Split everyone into 3 on 4 off staggered shifts. I have two 24" monitors, a 42" TV and a Surface and still don't have enough screen space. If I have to go to a single screen at home I'll be screwed.

My wife has been working from home (special ed teacher) but finds it challenging with 17 year-old son, his guitar, and his girlfriend, as well as our 7 year-old daughter. The 2 cats and 1 dog are not helpful either. I can understand, as I write this post with one of the cats on my lap :hihi:

I'm actually envious of all y'all, There ain't no work from home for me. I'm the director of rehab at a skilled nursing facility.

It’s amazing to me that a Surface Pro can push that many pixels. I thought I was pushing it with my old Surface Pro 4 running a 34” display.

Before the madness, I usually worked at home a couple of times a week. Now, this extended TW is a bit different. I agree with making sure to plan the day and stay organized. I also sometimes plug my computer into that tv and sit in a more comfortable chair I have behind. In the mornings, I might take my laptop out back and sit on the patio before it gets too hot.

though, i am thankful to not travel.

This is my favorite part of working from home. Not having to make the 45 minute trek each way. 90 minutes per day extra I have at home. I use that extra time to spend a bit more time with my family, helping cook, reorganizing house and other odds and ends. There's enough things to do here are home to keep me busy when I'm not working. I do need to add a mouse/keyboard and a large monitor to my home office, but I'd hate to spend that money and end up having to go back to work at my normal workplace. But I feel like we'll be in this spot for a bit, so idk.

This isn't the first time I've worked from home (I've done a few days here and there due to weather, etc.), but I still hate it. I just started wfh due to Corona yesterday, and will be doing so for at least a month. It's just a lot easier for me to be productive in the office. My brain and body associates home with rest and relaxation, not work.

That said, I have looked at the positives. I save $$$$ on gas and mileage with my car. Also, as a photographer (mainly shoot wildlife) and birder, I get to see things (critter related) that I miss out on when I'm at the office. Also, I live by the local airport, so I get to see aircraft that I don't normally get the chance to watch when I'm at work.

Meh...

I normally review building plans on a 50” TV and a 24” monitor. I am down to a 11” tablet for telework for 4 days per week. It’s incredibly frustrating. :mad1:
