OH.MY.GERD. I am chagrined.

Middle-aged black dude here (only mentioning that because race was referenced earlier) and I enjoyed the episodes of Friends that I watched. Granted, I probably watched maybe 10 full episodes ever, but not because I thought it was bad - outside of sports, I just didn’t watch a lot of TV during that time. Still, the shows made me laugh and I had a crush on Jennifer Aniston. That is all.

I’m pretty sure that phrase predated ‘Friends’, didnt it?


I read an article recently that stated the term ‘friends with benefits’ (nothing to do with the tv show, just meaning friends who have a relationship that is more than platonic) was first used in the Alanis Morrisette song Head Over Feet... to me that makes a little more sense, since i dont remember ever hearing the phrase before that song came out in the mid 90s.. but ‘going commando’ i feel like i heard way back in the 80s, no?

It apparently did but Friends really made it pop.
