I've actually come around on that issue. Not very long ago I was adamantly opposed, what I've since considered (and therefore softened towards it) are the national security implications. I think it's important to ensure we produce a certain percentage of our food domestically. I don't know enough about the issue to know if we're specifically doing "too much" to support that or what tweaks may need, but I'm not philosophically opposed to subsidizing farming anymore.
Whether we like it or not, farming has become a predominately a big business dominated by conglomerates. It makes less and less sense to subsidize them.
