Would a start at 0-8 justify a Sean Payton Firing ? (1 Viewer)

Bad luck and and Terrible bets have dethroned us as Contenders , all the way down to possibly an 0-10 start.

Chargers
Panthers
Chiefs
Seahawks
Niners
Broncos
Panthers

I see 0-10 coming a mile away.

The easiest game on our schedule coming up is at San Francisco , Who I'm sure would find a way to become all of the sudden Juggernaught like when we step on the field with them.

Next up is the Lions and Rams at home , and that's about all that I see us realistically being able to win against.

I know our Luck with Injuries has been unfavorable for lack of a better term , and I know our luck on free agents has been even worse. But does Sean Payton get a pass on all of this ?

Am I over exaggerating or is this an actual possibility.

Should we hit the 0-10 mark , that would've made nearly an entire season of not winning 1 game , meaningful or non meaningful ...

You a betting person. if so let me know if you want to put money this.

Is going 0-8 a good thing or a bad thing? Do some folks want that high pick so we can get someone like Myles Garrett or Marlon Humphrey AND to fire Sean Payton for it, or...I don't know.

Just ask yourself this - who would do it?

Tom Benson - with his advanced age and declining health there is little doubt he has any interest in starting from scratch, again. He has a long history of being extremely loyal to Head Coaches so given these factors the chances he demands a change are about zero.

Mickey Loomis - tied at the hip with Payton. The one and only way he ever fires Payton is if Benson gives him a "it's him or you" ultimatum. Because of the reasons I laid out for Benson there is no chance Loomis ever fires Payton.

Khai Harley - could he convince the Bensons that both Loomis and Payton need to go? Maybe but it would take a heck of sales job. Harley seeing the writing on the wall - declining ticket sales, inability to attract even mediocre free agents without massively overpaying, Payton's refusal to fire his "buddy" coaches, Loomis not as a strong GM abut just Payton's check writer - all may force Harley to act. This is the only scenario I see the team letting Payton go.

Why doesn't the team's past performance come up in these discussions?

So basically we're screwed, with the exception, maybe, of a dramatic drop in ticket sales in the next 2 years.

Still, how do you justify continuing this endless drift through the mediocre zone to the fans?

We are not going 0-10 unless Drew goes down. I feel bad for writing that because Drew is the only thing that makes this team watchable right now. I still believe this will be the worse team record wise under Sean but we are going to win some games we were not favored in along the way.

If they fire Payton, it better be because he took a tire iron to Breaux and Rankins legs, as wells as injured a number of others.

We will win at least 2 or 3 of those games mentioned.
What 2 teams let alone 3 do you think we will win out of those..

Coach Payton is not the problem. Our problem is a lack of depth that has really hurt us with injuries we could not afford to have happen now. We are in the process of rebuilding/retooling and are not far away from putting together a very solid team top to bottom. We have gotten rid of a lot of players causing us to have no cap room while having to throw some young guys in the fire. This all changes going into next season when our cap hell ends. We should get a nice draft pick and just hitting on our 1st and 2nd rounder along with the young guys we have now developing will be huge. Then we can go out and hit FA hard where we can really turn this team around. Adding a stud OG and DE in FA while filling in some holes with solid vets along with a solid draft will IMO gives us one of the more complete Saints teams we have had in the Payton/Loomis era.

Payton and Loomis have made some mistakes and right now we are seeing the worst part of it. Sometimes things have to hit rock bottom before they can get better and that's where we are. It looks much worse then it is with our record but the big picture looks better then it has ever been. Just be patient who dats because we have something special coming for the next few seasons. I'm fully confident Brees will have everything he needs on both sides of the ball to compete for championships over his last 3-5 years.

You don't go from being as bad as we are now to contending for a championship in a single off season. Imo we will be this bad for as long as Payton is here. We might improve slightly but that isn't hard.

Not many people in this thread have answered the question.

The answers is absolutely, unequivocally YES!!!

Seeing as how we just signed Payton to a multi year contract it's obvious we'll get rid of him in the next offseason. It's kinda our mantra

So, if we fire Payton, what brilliant coach is gonna walk through the door to be the savior? Nobody, that's who.

This kind of argument irritates the crap out of me. There is ALWAYS somebody out there. Payton took over for somebody, Jimmy Johnson took over for somebody, Mike McCarthy took over for somebody, Bill Bellichek took over for somebody. Get my drift? To say there is nobody out there who can do better is ridiculous.

I hope he finds another team, Loomis stays as money man, and get a new Gm.
