Would this game have been different with Winston? (1 Viewer)

And 5,000 yards passing and a top 3 offense

That happens when you have 2 of the top 5 receivers in the league.

We didnt have that luxury tonight.

Honestly, if you believe Jameis Winston would’ve been the difference maker tonight you’re not even worth arguing with.

Ha. I'm not arguing he's some difference maker. I'm not a Winston advocate. All I'm saying is he's not as bad as you are making him out to be. You said we would get blown out with Winston as if the dude is Nathan Peterman or something.

You clearly have some dislike for him though so :9:

I vehemently disagree. He’s in his first year with a complex offensive scheme without the luxury of an offseason program and multiple top 5 WRs. He’s working with Emmanuel Sanders and Trequan Smith and absolutely zero chemistry with either of them. He would’ve been a deer in headlights out there, and the game would’ve been a blowout. This isn’t Madden. You don’t just “plug and play.”

If you give Winston the same amount of practice and gameplanning Brees is given, this game is most likely a blowout. GB didn't really play all that well, and despite the defensive struggles, had consecutives stops for the offense. Harris and Sanders were WIDE open on just the two plays they showed the viewers (there were probably quite a few) and he didn't pull the trigger. Winston would have, and he has the arm to get it there. Instead, we got yet another checkdown to Kamara (I'm sticking my foot in my mouth about paying him at this point. Dude is unbelievable, and pretty much singlehandedly willed the offense to two touchdowns.). The fact a little under half of your total passing yardage came from Kamara himself is telling. His inability (or whatever is causing it) to push the ball downfield is crippling this offense, and DC's are seeing it. Bringing your secondary up and attacking whatever's right in front of you is an easy job for a defender. "But we still moved the ball, right?" No. Kamara did with some marginal help from Sanders. Brees looks good on paper with 29/36 for 288, but just how many of those are checkdowns/behind the LOS? Probably most of them, and teams just aren't threatened by that.

As much crap as he gets for his interceptions, Winston still had 30 TD's and 5,000 yards. He's not afraid to attack a secondary or throw the ball over a receivers head and give him the chance to catch up to it. He will hit an opening if there is one, especially with the time this OL gives QB's to throw. Hypothetical of course, but if Winston is able to score on the consecutive drives after those stops, the defense can pin their ears back and put the pressure on Rodgers. They were built to play with a lead, which is why they're struggling now. Add in some of the most clearly biased officiating I've seen in a while, and you get this result.

I think the conversation/discussion for playing Winston is fair at this point, especially after seeing this offense consistently wasting talent by tossing the ball five yards behind the first down marker and hoping Kamara can make a play out of it.

Yes Winston would have thrown 4 picks and we lose 37-10. Stupid post

So now Jamies Winston is better than Brees? Some of you guys are just ridiculous. Give Brees two good receivers and a pocket and we'd be looking just like we have the 3 years. On offense.

The D on the other hand............

I wish some of you had watched the Bears/Falcons game. Trubisky has a rifle arm. Yet Jonathan Vilma commented that as a defender you play up closer to the line because you don’t fear his deep ball due to his inaccuracy.

So many want to see the long ball, but launching bombs doesn‘t get us a win in this game any more than the gameplan we implemented. With the defense we have, the last thing you want to do is keep scoring quickly and keep their porous tails on the field. Can you imagine how much more GB would’ve dropped on us if we only did shot plays and gave them the ball back after two minute series? Well, that’s exactly what we used to do from 2012-2016(roughly). We do ball control to help our D as much as we do to help Drew.

Jameis wouldn’t have won that game w/the Saints 2012 defense reincarnate that we had out there. They lack situational football I.Q. That’s not something that a strong armed QB can fix.

Honestly. How some people can watch Jameis put out multiple losing seasons with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin catching passes, then turn around and think he could be the savior with Emmanuel Sanders and TreQuan Smith is a bit mind boggling to me.
