Would you be shocked if Ginn doesn't make the 53? (1 Viewer)

I think our young receiver corps is insanely talented. Do you think Ginn is in the mix or on the outside looking in?

You're smoking crack if you think Ginn doesn't make it. He's the fastest receiver on the team. You don't cut your fastest guy especially if he can catch and he's a veteran leader. This is nonsense.

Short of a failed drug test or something catastrophic, there is no way in Hades that Ginn isn't on the final 53. This is off-season click-bait type stuff....

See above, I agree with you. Naturally I expected dead falcons instead of meh for asking for input.

Input? You made a pretty bold statement and suggested that a key guy in the WR group who we really don't have anyone pushing him for his role could be on the bubble, you should expect bold responses. Sorry.

Ginn was awesome as a WR2 last year. Regardless of how well Meredith or Tre'Quan do this year, Ginn will still be on the team. You can take that to the bank.

Ginn is the only WR who can stretch the field .... Thomas, Meredith and Smith dont have the legs to do that ..... We need Ginn atleast this season ...

Obviously Ginn is the best (and most proven) deep-speed threat on the team. But he's also our best (and most proven) YAC-joker receiver. He's a threat to take any pass (or run) to the house from anywhere on the field. (deep, short, intermediate) Sean Payton has made a career of using those joker type RBs. He's finally got himself a WR version, and I just can't see him letting that go before it's time.

Thomas is our beast... our chain mover... the guy that other teams have to game plan against and scheme extra help for. He basically demands attention from 1/2 the field, wherever he lines up.

Ginn is our deep threat and joker. He demands a deep safety's attention. If that deep safety crashes down for whatever reason, or gets his hips turned wrong for just a second, then whichever CB is guarding him had better have good wheels and a good head start or it's TD-city! He's also our best (most proven) receiver at navigating a congested field once he has the ball in his hands. With so much attention given to Thomas, there will be times every game that Ginn's coverage breaks down. Drew just has to see it and hit him.

Meredith comes advertised as a slot receiver version of Thomas who can also play the boundary. It's doubtful that Cam will ever be quite on the level of a Thomas (VERY few WRs in the league are on that level), but if he's even close, then he will eat. If for no other reason than he's a big bodied, sure handed, slot receiver, with a huge catch radius and the fact that he will be in the slot and as we've learned this past offseason, few teams have a bonafide slot corner. Most teams simply make-do at that position. Factor in that 1/2 the field will have an eye on Thomas and at least a CB and FS will have to watch Ginn... there's only so many defensive players on the field on any given play. Meredith should have plenty of opportunities.

The feeling I get from what I've watched and read on Smith is that he's somewhere between Meredith and Ginn, skill wise. Good speed and size with a ridiculous wing-span. His route running is a question mark, however against the Jags and all of camp for that matter, he seems to be getting plenty separation. That's a good sign. Best case for Smith is that he becomes the guy that we can line up anywhere on the field with any combination of the other receivers, and he will win for us. I keep thinking the "Meachem-role".

Then there is Watson, Hill, (maybe Hooman, and/or Arnold)... and Ingram + Kamara. Drew should be flat loaded with weapons this season.

So who gets the other receiver spot or two? That is the question... Ginn making the roster is NOT. Kirkwood, Tate, Huff, TLL, or maybe IDK... Carr? I have to think we either use that roster spot on a return specialist and depending on how it plays out, we could use another on a guy we want to keep that we believe would get sniped on waivers (Kirkwood).

I think it is 90-95% that Ginn makes the team but I would not say his safety is guaranteed. He is more than in the mix, he is a presumptive weekly active and key player, but he is not guaranteed to make the roster.

Are you serious? Did you see what Ginn did last year? Look I know it is offseason, but find something else to make it interesting while we are bored. If you think that Ginn is not playing this year, well I cannot help you.

Anybody hear the interview with Ted today? He talked about constant learning and adapting. He named about 6 guys on the team who started as other positions in college or high school who play opposite positions in the NFL. I love the player and he is my daughters favorite not named drew brees. I agree with someone who posted above that he plays well this season but it is likely his last with us.

I never said I wanted him gone or thought his play has declined. This time of the season is the only time we discuss depth chart or options for replacing entrenched players. I know omgz it's an off-season filler thread but I only wanted to see if anyone else agrees with the media guys who put him on the bubble.

The basketball side of the coin is are the pelicans going to cut mek, Frank and liggins while flexing hill and buying out ajinca. All after free agency. This was posted on the main news page.

Both teams are in the pre season, both teams are out of free agency, both teams have to make roster moves and set rotations. If fans or media can't ask questions or seek input from others on these ideas then why have a message board, media, fans or sports for that matter?

I am not sure this is even a question.

Ginn, never noted as a hands guy, had one of the best catch ratios in the league last year, he's a proven speed guy veteran and will do anything to win.

We all love the next new thing, but even if TraQuan is the real deal, Meredith is still on the sidelines and right now Ginn is our clear no. 2 WR.
