Would You Overpay for Suh? (3 Viewers)

Not only would I not overpay for him I hope we don't sign him at all. He's been a poor character dirty player his entire career. We can do better. His talent level has changed from those days but I'm betting his character is still the same. Find another way saints.

Someone hasn't paid attention to him since he left Detroit...

I dont want him. He doesnt care about winning. He wants to play for the team who will pay him the most

Suh isn't nearly as athletic as he once was. The idea that we would be getting Suh in his prime is borderline insane.

What you are getting is a very good football player that can still manhandle players and make plays. So, define overpay because it's all relative.

bclemms - you post so many insightful and well backed posts. Thx! It seems like you always post really good stuff.

We only have a few years left with Drew.

Throw everything we can at it today and may the future salary cap implications be damned.

Agreed. I was miffed by the cap management 4-5 years ago. But at this point its time to go for broke these 2 years. Im guessing 20 teams arent thrilled with their QB situation and 12 of those teams have been trying to find a franchise qb for 20 years+, some of them never had one. Green Bay is the only real example of replacing a legend with a legend. Theres slim chance we ever have another Brees.

Suh makes the entire defense better. His impact is greater than any other player out there. Character issues aside, we need to take that risk. To hell with cap hell. Make it happen Loomis.

What, he can't care about winning and get paid from an employer who wanted to pay him more than anyone else to have him work for his business?

I'd rather pay a healthy Suh 12 million than an injured Okafor 9 million. Draft an edge to pair with Hendrickson we are set.

9 million for Okafor??

Where you getting that from?? There's no way he even sniffs close to 9 million unless it's on a 3 year deal

Pretty sure Okafor won't pull down 9 mil, but yeah. I think Hendrickson is very capable of being a good starter. I don't even think you need to draft anybody else. You still have Johnson and Muhammed, and Onyemata plays end too.

I, like a lot of Saints fans, would love to see Ndamukong Suh in a Saints uniform next season. But I know he is not going to not come at a low price. Now I know some people will bring up the salary cap, but as we all know, Loomis is a Cap Sorcerer and there is always a way to get more cap room. So should we overpay for his services?

Suh is not the high character guy we have built on our team. He is a "Me first" guy. I'll pass. I don't care how good he is.

I disagree
Suh looked like he was back in his old shape last season and was a force. Go watch him lunge and strip Carr of the ball and wreak havoc on the patriots.
I think he probably has two years left in his “prime”

Alex Okafor had a very good first season with the New Orleans Saints after joining the team as a free agent last offseason, and now the veteran defensive end faces the free agency period hoping he can repeat that success with the same team again in 2018. Okafor signed a one-year deal with the Saints last March hoping to fill a role as one-half of a pass rushing duo with Cameron Jordan, and in his first 10 games with the team racked up 43 tackles, broke up four passes, forced two fumbles, added five tackles for a loss, and recorded 4.5 sacks.

Then, in his 10th game, Okafor tore his Achilles tendon, ending that run of success.

“I want to be back here,” he said after the injury of his future plans for next season. “I was having a great year before I got hurt, and I just want to continue that.”

How much Okafor’s agent believes he’s worth may influence whether or not he can continue that, and with the offseason officially underway, we can take a look at what the 26-year-old could command on the open market.

According to Spotrac, Okafor is worth an annual salary of $9.4 million, payable as part of a four-year contract worth $37.791 million, an amount that would make him the sixth-highest paid defensive end in football, behind Houston’s J.J. Watt.

He will not come even close to that.. Coming off a torn Achilles with his injury history, not even the Browns would be stupid enough to pay him that much...

What Spotrac places his value as and what he actually gets paid are 2 different things

He never said he's looking for a long term deal. Just for the highest bidder. I'd throw a ton of money at him for just one or two years. Maybe with one of those voiding 2nd years to boot that we can convert or do some magic with to get it off the books and re-negotiate after the season.
