Would You Overpay for Suh? (1 Viewer)

We do it all for Superbowls. If I knew this signing could help us win one then yes in a heartbeat. You never ever pass up an opportunity to put your team over the top for 2 years.

May need to overpay if we dont want him leaving without a contract...

Suh averaged $19 million per on his last contract.

He was 28 when he signed it. He's now 31.

Calais Campbell signed for $15 million per last season at the age of 30.

I suspect Suh will average something less than the $19 million, but probably not much under $17 million.

As a reference point, Fletcher Cox, Olivier Vernon and JJ. Watt all make right at $17 million per. Wilkerson was at that number as well until being cut by the Jets then mysteriously settled for a 1 year $5 million deal with the Packers.

Cam Jordan is at $11 million.

The Miami Dolphins have a dead money cap hit of $22.2 million in 2018 for a boy named Suh.

Yikes.

It seems pretty simple to me. If Suh wants a final pay day on top of the huge sums of money he's already banked then he won't be coming here. We can no doubt offer him a good contract but it won't be the best he can get considering the interest and we should certainly NOT overpay.

If he wants to to be on a team that has a great chance at an SB run then it's likely we are his best option of the teams showing interest in him so it makes sense that we bring him in for a visit and do our due diligence.

It would be great to add him to our D-line but I wouldn't be devastated if it doesn't happen.

How do you qualify the value of a player that makes everyone around him better? He might be worth $12-15 just on his own but when you factor in the improvements of everyone around him then what's he worth?

We invested a lot in Rankins and Jordan, suddenly they can't be double teamed. They are worth even more. We just gave a middle linebacker a pretty big contract, he's going to be allowed to roam freely. Look at what our secondary was last year, now they'll have to cover for less time and we'll have to blitz less thanks to our front 4 getting pressure on their own.

Just from the buzz alone Mathieu might want to sign at a discount. He had a down year last year and is still plenty young, a short term contract might be the right move for him. Then imagine the possibilities if a pass rusher like Davenport is the BPA.

I don’t understand why anyone wants this guy. He underperformed after getting a big contract in Miami. Why do you think he would be different here?

Please please please let him continue to "underperform"...

???

I dont care if he came in and got 30 sacks. He is tainted. I get some people want to win at any cost. I am not that guy, I prefer the team to stay classy and of a high moral fiber.

If Suh costs us 15 million a season (which I think is under what he's going to get) Suh would cost us as much as two Cam Jordans... He might be good but he isn't that good.

That's the salary cap increase for you. If we signed Cam Jordan this year, he would command at least $15 mil/yr.

I don't want to pay that for a defensive tackle either. I also don't want to have to pay Okafor a premium contract coming off of an injury. But with few quality DTs and DEs remaining, what do you do? If that's the only way we can compete with the Eagles, Rams, and Vikings, what do we do? If paying a couple premium salaries gives us our best chance to win a ring, would that make it worth it?

Having the best players doesn't guarantee championships, getting weaker or staying the same when the other contenders are improving is a sure way not to win championships.

We had a very good team last year. At first glance, that team goes 9-7 with this year's schedule. We have to get better vs the run and at affecting the QB.

Hes a great player, 3 down lineman, can play any technique at a high level. He is one of those plsyers whos cap hit outweighs his impact
