He had a really decent rookie season but had to missed out his second season due to injury

Him being back isn't even in doubt.

Issue is will he be at anything resembling serviceable, let alone improved from his rookie year? And if he is improved somehow, can he remain healthy? Some guys like Thomas Davis can come back from multiple ACL issues and not lose a thing, plus ACLs aren't the boogeymen of the sports world that they used to.

Hell, there was briefly speculation that Kikaha might be back for the playoffs...you know, if we ever made it there.

They say he's on track to be back, and I hope he's full speed again, but I'm kinda tired of putting all our eggs in one basket. Bring in some comp for him and all the guys on our D who finished the season on IR. worst case scenario we have an abundance of pass rushers and DBs for depth or trade bait.

I have no doubt he will be back and be good. This is his 3rd acl surgery and after every one he came back better than ever. I don't even care if he produces, that man deserves respect!!!

I wouldn't even factor him in it. Plan like he doesn't exist.

And if he does come back strong, even better.

We knew from the beginning that he was a 'Hail Mary'. Terrible injuries were why he fell in the draft. We were hoping to get lucky. We may, still, but don't invest in the thought.

In a league where speed kills... I don't see him being a premier starter. Rotational guy at best.

I think he can be more than just a rotational piece in a defense.

He has started 11 games in his career, and has 4 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 2 passes defensed, and was 8th on the team in tackles. So I don't think getting productive snaps from him is going to be a problem going forward. He's just got to stay healthy.

I absolutely love Kikaha as a 3rd/4th down specialist that you keep healthy and fresh by using him on a pitch count. As crosswatt noted, production per snap certainly isn't his issue.

But, as Bonchie alluded, I just don't see anyway anyhow that you can pencil him in as anything close to a "starter." Unfortunately, much like Ellerbe, you have to move forward as if that player is almost not even on the team.

But, if by some miracle, Kikaha and/or Ellerbe were able to stay healthy the majority of the year, that alone makes this a top 25 defense. Add in a little free agency and draft and you could easily see top 20, and with this offense, that is more than enough for a serious playoff run.

Kikaha is a wild card that we can't depend on.

Best case scenario - comes back stronger than ever and produces at a high level
Most likely scenario - stays healthy and is a nice rotational player
Worst case scenario - see Greg Romeus

I do remember Payton saying something about this surgery was to a different part of the ACL than the previous two (one of which was supposedly to fix the botched first surgery) IIRC.

So, yeah, I sure hope he comes back healthy and picks up where he left off after the first half of his rookie year before they tried to move him to a traditional SLB instead of just a pass rusher.

This. Everything he does has to be considered a bonus, and roster moves should be made as if he never plays another down.

He's a bonus on any level after two ACLs.

Just as likely never reaches expectations now.
