And by interesting, I mean weird.

So, today I'm driving back to Omaha after a couple of days in Little Rock on business. South of Kansas City I gotta make a pit stop, so I pull into a truck stop. I go in, do my bidness, then get back into my pickup to leave.

Suddenly, this truck driver approaches my pickup and gets my attention. So, I'm sitting in the driver's seat, and I open the door to see what he wants. Then he starts asking me if I knew that Congress had passed a law last week banning Americans from growing organic vegetables in their yards. Stunned, I tell him "no, I hadn't heard that."

He then proceeds to describe a story about a lady growing eggplant in her yard in Washington, D.C. who was told by Congress that if she didn't destroy that eggplant she would face a $5000.00 a day fine.

"Uh-huh." I replied, still in shock.

By this time I'm trying to close my truck door and get the heck outta there, but he's standing in the way. So I thanked him for this important information and, after agreeing to write my Congressman about this travesty, he let me leave.

As I was tearing out of the parking lot and getting back onto the highway I caught a glimpse of the road sign for the community - Peculiar, MO.

True story.

I wrote these lyrics when I was 22. It was an attempt at a one of those country songs that's true but also funny.

Truck Stop Hooker by Superchuck500

I pull loads from Detroit to Mobile
I don't much mind it, I love being behind the wheel
There's this little town South of Birmingham and
Every other Tuesday I pull in
And watch her as she makes her way down the line . . .

She's my truck stop hooker, always on time
Truck stop hooker, one of a kind
She's a truck stop hooker, one day I'm gonna make her mine.

Well I don't mind if she's missin' teeth in her smile
Those rhinestones seem to shine a country mile
Her hair ain't blonde, but it ain't quite brown
I sure love that Alabama town and I can't wait til Tuesday comes around . . .

She's a truck stop hooker one of a kind
Truck stop hooker my-oh-my
She's a truck stop hooker one day I'm gonna make her mine

One day I'm gonna maker her mine.

I wanted to add a bridge but never worked it out. And I've forgotten the chords. Pretty goofy stuff, but I still remember the lyrics.

Now that I have had some time to think about it, that dude was inordinately bent out of shape over that woman's eggplant. Maybe he had a weird vegetable fetish...

And he had crazy eyes...

Anyone know if the trucker's claims are true regarding the ban on growing vegetables? Land of the free.

Well I'll be damned.. It looks like he wasn't so looney after all...

http://thefinalhour.blogspot.com/2009/03/hr-875-end-of-organic-farming.html

Many small farmers and organic food activists are claiming that if H.R. 875 is passed, it will mean the end of organic farming in the United States.

H.R. 875 was introduced by Democrat Rosa DeLauro in February. Her introduction of this bill represents a stunning conflict of interest, because her husband, Stanley Greenburg, works for Monsanto. Monsanto is the world's biggest producer of herbicides and genetically engineered seeds, and they would GREATLY benefit if thousands of small organic farmers were put out of business, because organic farmers don't use Monsanto products.

H.R. 875 is called the Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 and you can find the full text of the bill here:

Simply freaking unbelieveable...
