Excitement among fans and players will fill the air Sunday as regular-season football returns when the New Orleans Saints host the Oakland Raiders at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

But it was exactly a week ago that a group of players experienced a series of emotions on the opposite end of enthusiasm while nervously awaiting news they were part of the initial 53-man roster.

Count tight end Chris Manhertz, who spent the 2015 season on the Saints practice squad, among them.
