They might not get nuked, but something bad will happen to them if you don't vote for the Goldwater girl:

It's 3 a.m., and your children are safe and asleep, But there's a phone in the White House, and it's ringing — something's happening in the world. Your vote will decide who answers that call.

Whether it’s someone who already knows the world’s leaders, knows the military, someone tested and ready to lead in a dangerous world. It’s 3 AM and your children are safe and asleep. Who do you want answering the phone?

Obama's response:
Now before we open this up for conversation, I just want to take a moment to respond to an ad that Sen. Clinton is apparently running today that asks, “Who do you want answering the phone in the White House when it’s 3 a.m. and something has happened in the world?”

We’ve seen these ads before. They’re the kind that play on peoples’ fears to scare up votes.

Well it won’t work this time. Because the question is not about picking up the phone. The question is — what kind of judgment will you make when you answer? We’ve had a red phone moment. It was the decision to invade Iraq. And Sen. Clinton gave the wrong answer. George Bush gave the wrong answer. John McCain gave the wrong answer.

That wouldn't be playing to one of those "hypotheticals," the notion of which she took exception to in the last debate, would it?

Hypotheticals are only erroneous when they force you to take a stand on an issue and you either don't have an answer scripted or you would be forced to say something you don't want to go on record saying.

Over at the National Review site, they are saying that commercial this may actually benefit McCain.

oops

Why do they have a secretary answering the phone at the end of the commercial?

(I'm not serious, don't kill me)

Loved Obama's response, but strictly from a marketing standpoint, I think it's a good ad. In this case though, she may not want to remind people that Bill could be the one answering the phone, just to let her sleep in. :D Good ad, good response by Obama, but it still smacks of desperation to me.

Or maybe the phoneline would be busy... you know, cause Bill's on the phone.

Does anyone else find it ironic that most people, without knowing the context of the commercial, probably thought "McCain", not Hillary :hihi:

A reporter asked whether Clinton should drop out after Ohio and Texas. Obama adviser Richard Danzig responded:

"I would encourage you on March 5 to call Sen. Clinton at 3 a.m. and ask that question."

I think it would play better in the general than the Dem primary. Most of Clinton's attacks have hurt her more than Obama.

I actually agree with Bill on this matter:
Now, one of Clinton's laws of politics is this. If one candidate is trying to scare you and the other one is try get you to think, if one candidate is appealing to your fears and the other one is appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.

I think it's a legit commercial, I think it's a very good commercial actually that gets a very important message across. Something is going to happen in the next four years and we definitely want someone in the White House who's best suited to lead and make smart decisions.

I believe issues related to National Security and Patriotism will make BO an easier opponent for JM. I would expect the JM camp will make this a wedge issue.

Based on what I've observed, BO has only his objection to the war in Iraq to hang his hat on regarding foreign policy. Is anyone aware of any BO examples of Patriotism or foreign policy/negotiation experience?
