Are you guys seriously going to hire Orgeron?

As big of a school, with all the resources you have, and Ed Orgeron?

I'd go off the radar and hire PJ Fleck. That guy would do incredible things with a roster like LSU's.

He's been hired at LSU. That's not a new hiring. He's taking over as interim coach, which he's had some experience with. What are you talking about?

The only way I see Coach O staying on as HC is if LSU wins out and everyone else balks at the job. I think he'd be a fantastic fit personality-wise. There's nothing that would be better than a true-blue Cajun running LSU, but he's just not good enough.

I hear this morning on the radio that Aranda was given the title Associate HC.

You have 2017 coaching staff in your title. So we are all assuming you mean this is what the future staff will look like.

Your title is "2017" coaching staff. And you have Oregeron as the HC next year.

This.

You probably just made a mistake in the title. I thought this was who you wanted to be the staff next year.

What frightens me as a fan of another SEC team is LSU hiring Petrino.

I like him, but my concern would be whether he can maintain the same level of recruiting. Miles' recruiting prowess gets forgotten in all the hair-pulling about coaching issues, but whoever the new hire is has big shoes to fill as far as recruiting goes.

To touch on a few things about the changes...

Ensminger shouldn't need an introduction to LSU fans as a former LSU QB. he's been an OC/Passing Game Coordinator at Auburn (Jason Campbell), UGA (Eric Zeier), TAMU and Clemson. He's going to keep the Pro-style system, which should be expected. You can't change an offensive philosophy in week 5 of your season. Hopefully he's going to have a healthy mix of play action passing mixed in. I think if they go to a base offense of 3WR sets, the production difference will be dramatic even if they don't throw to them any more than they do now.

Craig has been a recruiting coordinator at FSU. He excels at the position. i don't thnk anyone here has any issues with that. I'm starting to question of abilities as WR Coach though.

No change with Grimes, but they are promoting Eric Mateos from QC to the TE Coach. Mateos was swiped from Arkansas this past year. Previous to Arky he coached O-Line and/or TE at several JUCO and smaller schools. he seems to be a promising asset. Like all of the coaches on staff, he's a very good recruiter. He was the former Center and team Captain at SW Baptist.

Peveto is no longer handkling the OLBs. he is Special Teams only now. We can only hope that this will lead to improved play from both the OLB and ST, because both were doing poorly. Former LSU DT, Dennis "Meatball" Johnson is taking over the OLBs. He's been a defensive QC this year. Before coming back to LSU, he was a GA at NWST.

Pete Jenkins is taking over for Orgeron at D-Line. He did the same at USC. He resides in BR and this will be his 3rd time as the LSU D-Line coach. the guy is legendary and I hope the players realize this. They are getting the original deal now.

No changes with Cory Raymond. He has the most secure job on the staff.

Aranda continues to head the defense and handle the ILBs. However, he has been given the added title of Associate Head Coach. I find this last move to be very interesting. Aranda is a guy some would think might be a candidate to replace Miles eventually. With Miles now gone, does Aranda still remain a possible candidate? With Orgeron now technically his boss, how does the dynamic work out should they promote Aranda to HC? Well, you set him on equal footing with the new (interim) Boss.

Austin Thomas is now the GM. I don't think I have ever heard of a college football team having a GM, so maybe this is the first. I think they felt it was important to keep Thomas around, being he was very close with Miles. This title change probably comes with a little more cash, too.

Thanks. That's the first and last time I start a new thread on Tapatalk. It's not meant for fat thumbs.

I thought this was a good read and might offer some insight as to what we might expect from Coach O.

6 things to know about Ed Orgeron, LSU

After he left Oxford, Orgeron said that he dedicated himself to studying as many successful head coaches as he could. What worked for them. What would work for him. A few years later, when things fell apart for Lane Kiffin in Orgeron's second stint at Troy, Coach O knew how he wanted to proceed when AD Pat Haden named him interim head coach.

"We were all separated as a program," he said. "In film sessions, coaches would say ‘well, my unit graded as an A.' A receiver would say ‘I caught 13 passes.' We weren't a team."

It began with a tug-of-war contest in his first meeting after he took over. It progressed to things as simple as cookies in the cafeteria. Movie nights. Music in the locker room. Shorter, less physical practices with clear goals for each day, like "Turnover Tuesday" and "No Repeats Thursday." Guess speakers like Ray Lewis, Marcus Allen and Dr. Dre.

"I don't know who Dr. Dre is!" he proclaimed. "I guess he makes headsets."

Orgeron stressed togetherness for everybody in the program, from coaches and their families through players to trainers, managers and support staff, who were welcome at team functions like dinners and Friday movie excursions to Paramount Studios. Even the marching band.

"I love the music," he said. "I love the band. I love them to come to practice. I love the jock rallies. I love the LSU Tiger Band and the Golden Girls. I love the fight songs," Orgeron said. "Are you kidding me? ‘Hold that Tiger?' Think about it."

In game preparation, he reverted the Trojans to Pete Carroll's "compete every day" philosophy, with an internal focus. The results were a 6-2 run that led many to think he might get the job fulltime.

"Each game is a new challenge -- it ain't about them. It's about us."
