Back to the classroom for some important teachings!
After having fun with one another, doing interviews and posing for various pictures in the NBA rookie photo shoot over the weekend, Zion Williamson, Jaxson Hayes, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and much of the rest of the 2019 draft class are returning back to the classroom.
The four-day Rookie Transition Program kicks off today and it’ll serve as the upcoming first year players’ official introduction to the league. Zion and the rest of the rookies in attendance will get a crash course on numerous topics including financial management, career planning and the importance of social media. Plus, they’ll be exposed to several equally important and growing facets of modern society: social activism and mental wellness.
In addition to acquiring knowledge, Zion and the rest of the gang will gain unique perspectives on the way things work both on and off the court. For instance, last year’s group attended the NBPA Headquarters and received an inside look at the players union and met with various legends and officials in addition to attending seminars.
To give you a better idea of the breadth of the curriculum, listed below is the itinerary from the 2016 Rookie Transition Program.
Since its inception in 1986, the Rookie Transition Program has aimed to help young players find success both on and off the court in today’s ever-changing environment. However, this program isn’t only limited to four days this week as it actually entails a year-long process where help and guidance is always made available.
With the New Orleans Pelicans drafting four rookies, it’s of paramount importance to get Zion, Jaxson and NAW acclimated quickly and have them remain comfortable throughout the 2019-20 season. This week’s Rookie Transition Program and its continuing education should be of great assistance in making the move to the professional ranks a much easier one.
