Rebuilding strategy, forty-niners or saints?

We are watching two different strategies right now on rebuilding.

New Orleans is riding the wave of the salary cap. They were not able to release Derek Carr because they think he is the best option to build around, and also because of cap consequences.
On this point you are making, I don't know if they think Carr is the best option to build around. He is the best option at QB this year, and by all accounts they could move on from him next year if they wanted to. He doesn't seem like the QB of the future unless he shows something else this year. In any case, he doesn't seem like he can elevate the play around him and the days of the Saints D being formidable are long gone, so the offense has to pull its weight too.

But there is something else to be said about Moore's strategy. He is the anti-Payton in the sense that he doesn't want to sacrifice the overall makeup of the team or the cap in order to accelerate his imprint on the team. He is even bringing in former players that were cut by the Allen regime, and values the veteran leadership in the team. He is being consistent with the mantra of working with what you got, and then some.
