New stadium.... (1 Viewer)

No that wasn't meant in the literal term it was meant as questioning why would the state make it unable to be "moved" aka the ability to destroy it.

I must have completely missed any news/rumors/etc.....but I did see mention about a possible new stadium in two threads this morning (Drew owning Saints and retractable roof).

Is this an actual discussion.....and if so, what would a possible timeline look like?

Also, would it be on the same site? If not, I can't imagine available land within walking distance of the city.

Thanks in advance,
Outback
There will never be a new stadium in New Orleans. They will continue to update the Superdome, just as they have Lambeau Field and Soldier Field. Unlike most stadiums built 30+ years ago, the Superdome is very well built and very flexible in terms of configurations. Even after that, the simple fact is that the area doesn't have the funds for a new stadium and to redevelop the infrastructure to a new stadium.

So, unless the owner is about to shell his/her own money for a new stadium...

It's going to be interesting to follow how the Chargers do playing at Stubhub stadium the next two seasons. I think it's going to hold 27,000 a game.

If a future stadium is at the Superdome site or if it's a complete gut out and re do of the Superdome, what's the chance they the Saints play at Yulman Stadium for a few seasons?!
It could be an option.

My bet would be Tiger Stadium.

A new stadium will eventually be built where the Dome is. Green Bay doesn't host Super Bowls, Final Fours, major bowl games, and the College Football Playoff.
Lambeau only hosts the Packers in a city that is contractually locked to the NFL forever.

Modify the Mercedes Benz Superdome!

The Terrace level has such a steep pitch, it feels weird sitting up there for games....my Thoughts are to modify the Entire Terrace Area around the Stadium, add more suites, and change the steep angle to a more comfortable level, yes, this might delete some seating, which I think would be necessary, however, improved sight lines are everything.
There will be "NO" new Stadium built for the Saints in New Orleans...expected costs would be in the neighborhood of 2-3 Billion Dollars....extending the roof, and softening the Terrace sight lines is the best option...................

It's registered as a historical site. So that's not going to happen.

Where will those events be held for the two years it would take to remove the current structure and build a new one there? Who do you suppose would pay for this to be done? The answer to those questions must be found before any real discussion of a new stadium is conducted.

I just don't understand. Why the sudden urge to build a new stadium?

The Superdome looks good, has adequate seating, is in a great location, has top of the line outside entertainment and amenities. The new boards are some of the best in the league.

Also as far as construction in New Orleans, we are doing a lot of condos/apartments right now. There's not going to be a surplus of real-estate any time soon.

The thing is, there are a couple of scenarios to building another stadium that don't factor in the location.

Who puts up the money? In Atlanta Blank put up 800 million and the rest came from the hotel tax in Atlanta. So basically 40% of all taxes brought in by tourism went to the Falcons and not to city needs like infrastructure.

The main reason that Atlanta built a new stadium was so that the team and owner could have more control over what goes on there and bring in more money. The super bowl is just a carrot to dangle in front of the city to get them to support a new stadium.

If we built a new stadium in New Orleans tickets would skyrocket. If you are a season ticket holder, you're not anymore. Get in line just like everyone else and get ready to pay an insane PSL on top of the season ticket costs.

Atlanta is lowering their concession prices while raising their ticket prices.

The problem with a new stadium is mainly the location. Yes the money, we have spent a lot of money in upgrades to the dome recently so yeah we're not getting a new stadium. But the LOCATION is the key. No other city has a better location for their stadium than we do and to build a new stadium would mean sacrificing that location or having to play a couple of years in a different stadium (Tulane/LSU) while a new dome is built in the currently location. Either way I say this has a less than 5% chance of happening.

If there is strong sentiment on this forum that (a) a new stadium is not necessary and (b) a new stadium will not be built, just think how the general public and elected officials feel on these issues.

You're right about the general public, but Atlanta is a good indicator that with enough financial backing, who cares what the public thinks, as long as there is money to be made.

Also for a little reference for those that are pro new stadium:

My friend at work had season tickets in the ga dome for $200 a ticket. Those same tickets in the new stadium will be $500 a ticket plus a $5,000 PSL fee.

What is a psl fee what does it mean?
