Saints PJ Williams to get the start over Crawley...What ya think? (1 Viewer)

It's a myth that we played mostly man last year.

Actually, we did...in weeks 1 and 2.

After playing 57% man, we went to 41% man over the next six games. We ended up 6-2.

Playing more zone with PJ is not a bad thing. It just has to be executed properly.
Yeah I don't get why people think we played mostly man. I don't think any team in the NFL plays more man than zone.

No idea but it was lots of zone last game at least.

Ok. The reason I asked is that I think PJ is better suited to play zone. Not as fast as Crawler but bigger with enough short area quickness to cover his area.

I don't like it, I would have cut PJ williams and kept a rookie, He just isn't athletic enough to cover fast receivers, I hope he has safety help most of the time because he will need it.

I’m a Crawley fan, but I’m pumped for this. PJ was a draft pick that we’ve been very patient with. It’s now or never.

Unless Williams struggle, Crawley won't be handed the starting position back. The job is Williams to lose once that decision was made.

Williams was only handed the starting position because Cralwey struggled. It works both ways.

We are in big trouble if P.J. isn't as fast as a crawler. :ezbill:

To put it another way, Autocorrect strikes again!

PJ made a huge INT on the road last year against Newton to get the Saints Mrs goyou my in the right direction after a 0-2 start, not unlike the Williams INT we saw last week.

Let’s see how this plays out. It’s not like Crawley isn’t ever allowed back on a football field. Let’s see how PJ does and then go from there.

I agree. People wanted Crawley benched. Here they go, PJ is almost never around his guy and if he is he's holding him.

I’m not sure exactly what we’ll get with Williams but I’m amazed how good Crawley has become in the mind of some fans.

If you’re guna use something to pick on Williams and prop up Crawley, I dont think “holding” is what you should go with...

PJ is actually pretty decent on the outside and really good against the run. He struggles in the slot against TE’s and RB’s.
We played him in that role early on last year with Harris on the outside and had disasterous results.

He was moved outside and did really well until he got a concussion in run support.

Coaches are at least open to trying to make improvements.

There always seems to be an uproar in here whenever any move is made. And if that move turns out to just be a bad rumor? The uproar is just as loud the other way.

Except when we fired most of the position coaches. For one evening, SaintsReport.com was in complete harmony.

I like how a 1-1 start has already left us in such apathy that we genuinely don't wanna think about how this plays out. I'm sort of in that crowd. I expect the worst but hope PJ balls out.
