Saints Need an Offensive Weapon (2 Viewers)

and the best offensive weapon is a great Oline
So we want a great oline with concussion prone Olave likely to draw top coverage and risk Shaheed missing games again? How does our scrub receivers perform in clutch situations? We're playing the Bills, Rams, 49ers, Dolphins, Packers, and Cowboys next year and going to Buffalo, Seattle, LA, and GB again. You're not beating them with MVS.

Unfortunately there is no offensive weapon worth the 10th pick in this draft that will be available.

Tet will go before 10.
Jeanty while great is the one position we do not have the luxury of selecting in the top 10.
Neither Loveland or Warren are top 10 picks.
The top 10 offenses in yardage in the NFL with the exception of Cincinnati are excellent at running the ball and not being able to run is a big reason why they're having issues.

You call it a luxury but I'd say it's a necessity. As we're sorting this mess out the one thing we need to be able to do is run the ball. It's the best thing you can do for a defense and the best thing you can do for a young QB.

Obviously the line is a massive part of that but our starting line with the exception of one guard spot is under a multi year contract so our options are limited. We need to shore that guard spot up with an actual starter and draft depth.

We need SOOO much. We are 2-3 years of great drafting away from being competitive. There isn't much that can change in one year when the team is this devoid of talent. Take a weapon. Take a lineman....whatever. just get a great player....no projects and no one with an injury history.

I don't care who is under contract..with a team this bad everyone's seat should be hot.

They do.

They also need:
Several wide receivers
Several tight ends
Two guards and maybe one OT
Two edges and an interior d lineman (maybe two)
At least two linebackers maybe three
Two safeties.

On a very positive note, (lest it be implied that I’m a negative Nancy) our special teams unit is golden.

Oh yeah…..
Reading the latest Underhill article (it’s paywalled so can’t quote here) he says that 5 wins would have gotten us the 5th pick last season and the season before that.

That sucks.

I am usually hoping to get a great lineman in the first round, but I think what this team desperately needs is a legit young star.

I hope our first round pick is the best Offensive weapon available when we draft.
Saints have to find a way to do both. We do have offensive weapons but all of them were hurt this year crazily. However we need a bigger physical #1 type receiver that can make contested catches. We need a true receiving TE to compliment the offense. FIRST AND FOREMOST we must fix this o line. You can have all the weapons in the world. If you can’t open a run lane or protect the QB IT DOESNT MATTER WHO YOU HAVE.

We need is a QB and beyond the top 2 QBs there probably no better than Rattler.

And you can have the best oline and our receivers are mediocre at best. Injury prone and not scaring any DC. We’ve tried the let’s fill the line with the most 1st rounders that we can and HOWS THAT WORKING OUT. And the 1st 2 games was an anomaly since they diffidently wasn’t the norm since the time when Drew was still getting blown up in the pocket.

Using the top 10 offenses as an example is silly because they have weapons outside of their run game, we do not.

Our WR/TE group wouldn't make the roster of these teams. We have absolutely nobody who is a threat to make a play.

Defenses are just selling out against the run against us because *checks notes* Kevin Austin, Deonte Pettis, and JJ are our receiving threats.

AK is our only positive weapon on offense and is paid to be a bell cow back. Drafting another RB would be god awful asset management.

The Saints need help everywhere.

They have to draft all offensive line and defensive line. Look at Malik Neighbors. Amazing talent but the team stinks. He's wasted. That would happen in New Orleans if an offensive weapon was drafted.

Not happening in this draft. Weak WR class IMHO.
That’s why I’ll continue to push to draft 2 TEs
I was only referencing Jefferson as an example of a classic draft steal to tag along with my trading down idea, not saying that’s the position (WR) we actually need to draft in round one. I like the idea of a R1 trade down to around 20 and then BPA. Then try and do the same in R2. That might net us an additional 2 or 3 decent draft picks.

Anyway. You mention drafting two TE’s but in what rounds do you draft them? Maybe Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland (BPA) in round two seems like a great pickup if one of them is still on the board. But Saints usually draft for need in rounds one and two so where does TE fall in line with our early round picks. I do not know the depth in this years draft at TE, what guys are available that you like that can replace Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau? As of now those two are about all we got catching passes so where does our draft guru’s put TE on our needs/draft board. Most fans probably agree we need to upgrade, but not sure where you draft them unless they are BPA in later rounds. We could use a couple trade downs for more draft pics but as everyone knows, that is not Mickey’s normal strategy. Getting two TE’s with the pics we now have would not disappoint me but, I just don’t see how that happens.

What we need is a offensive mind head coach. But we know that Mickey Loomis is not going to let that happen because he going to hire another familiar face from the Sean Payton's staff.

i get it we do need another but don’t forget when healthy our offense could score. kamara olave and shaheed were all very good. i know there ? now with age and injuries but i dont think we need a total retool. just 1 wr to go with another 1-2 lineman
