N/S Jaguars release TE Evan Engram [Broncos sign Evan Engram to 2-year/23m deal] (9 Viewers)

Even if his effectiveness is winding down, he's probably better than what we have and adding some veteran presence to this offense doesn't sounds like a bad idea to me. Also aren't most people against drafting positions of need (which I've never really understood) and all about BPA? What if we never get that TE in the draft because we are more concerned with BPA?
I’m perfectly happy if they draft 3 tight ends…care not if they sign one of these FA’s…

Having said that, Hellen Keller and or Willow would be better TE options than what we’ve had on the team the last few seasons.

Draft at least 2.

@Infoman is on board with this idea.

Speaking of, @Infoman can we get an early call, please, on which particular TE you are going to demand the team drafts this year (regardless of whether they are taken before our first pick, of course)? Just so I can get set for the fireworks 😉

Welp... I've been calling for Tyler Warren at 9 since before it was cool here.... So let's go with Carolina skull humping us by taking him at 8 for the light show!

I am in favor of grabbing him for the right price. He is very good when used right.
I am interested to know what you think the right price is.

His last contract averaged $13.7m per annum. At the 'bargain basement' end, Foster Moreau gets $4m. And in the mid-market range, obscure names like Colby Parkinson get $7.5m.

So what do you think the right price, that will get Engram to sign, actually is?

He's not the kind of FA that affects your draft plans. If you sign him you can still draft one of the top TE's. It sounds like we'll be very active in acquiring TE's. Moreau and Hill both had significant injuries at the end of the year and JJ is a FA, one I'm kind of hoping we let walk.

Since he was cut he won't count against the comp pick calculator.
Agree, and we need to look at players that won’t affect our comp picks especially. We need all the draft picks we can get in the next few years!!!!

I am a hard no. Dude has talent and measurables but disappeared in stats. I am a fan when he is on but zero fantasy points weeks on end is very frustrating. I usually don't bring fantasy into forums but too many tight ends fit into this category, including all Saints tight ends since Jimmy Graham.

For me the right price would be minimal. The limited money we might free up should go toward younger players. I'd rather take chances on what appears to be middle of the road types (like Baun was to the Eagles) than blow the limited budget we will have on an older player's past performance.

So I think what may have been lost from view is that my comments were in relation to the idea of signing Engram, an ageing player who is exiting a $13.75m AAV contract, and who will expect pay commensurate with his market. I contrasted this with the rookie pay scale quite deliberately to show that was one route to follow. The other will likely be to continue signing Evan McNobody's for minimal vet salaries as we've done for some time now.

I agree with your broader points about not waiting until the draft, filling holes etc. That's all wise counsel. What I find impossible to understand is the assumption of some that a player who has enjoyed past success, now cut ostensibly due to being aging and overpriced, is going to become a 'value' proposition for us. The money being paid out to TEs, even middling ones, does not support that notion in any evidential way.
To your point regarding what you find impossible to understand, everyone is just hoping for a DD or Sharper type FA signing - guy in his mid 20s/early 30s who can come in and be that top 5-10 at their position for a season or two en route to a championship in Sharper’s case or almost a decade of going down as an all-timer when it comes to Davis.

I drafted McBride in round 3 before any receivers and got to the semi finals. I also scored the most points in the 3rd place game. TE is too important. I had no number one WRs drafted but somehow grabbed up Sutton after week 2.
