Pat Kirwan said he heard Carr didn’t want to do Saints contract restructure (91 Viewers)

Restructuring adds time to a contract. It’s clear Carr probably isn’t thrilled about staying any longer than he has to - I mean, it’s not like he’s felt an outpouring of love from the city or the fan base.
Exactly. I'm SHOCKED he preferred to leave a team when the fans base boos him, criticizes where he eats, calls for his head at every turn, gets upset that he tried to dive for extra yards but also gets upset that he isn't Taysom when he doesn't try to get extra yards. But now if I REALLY wanted to leave I would have dropped my salary down to vet minimum which would have let the Saints cut me without severe cap ramifications. So he couldn't have wanted to leave that badly.

... Carr’s agents had to read him the part of his contract that stated the Saints could restructure it any way they choose. He didn’t know that was in his contract.
I guess it's a fine point that a player, in the short-term euphoria of signing a new deal, can easily overlook. Sounds like his agent(s) knew, though.

Perhaps Carr should've been amenable to a pay cut if he wanted to facilitate a trade or release. His options going into this offseason were that he could have either (a) a new starting job elsewhere, or (b) all of his 2025 contract money -- but not both. I'd hope his agents laid all that out for him, but maybe Carr had been considering his immediate career too superficially until recently. Who can say?

Apologies if this is old news, but just now on Movin the Chains Kirwan said Carr’s agents had to read him the part of his contract that stated the Saints could restructure it any way they choose. He didn’t know that was in his contract. Does anyone know why Carr would oppose this restructuring, unless it had to do with him not wanting to be on the team?
That's funny, that's why he said in that ESPN article. "id be willing to restructure, and help the team that way but no...i wouldn't take a paycut" He quite literally didn't know that the restructure is in the contract, Underhill posted the language in his contract weeks ago. If the team approached him about a restructure that he'd be willing to negotiate but apparently he didn't realize that they don't have to approach him at all.

Hilarious....if you love the city the city will love you back...if you don't. Well hahahhahahahahah

Definitely think he would rather be released, get his money, and a shot at landing on a team needing a qb that would sign him to a multi year deal with fans that don't bash him. Also think this could lead to a qb pick in the draft because if not we'll be one of those teams signing Derek 2.0 for $40 mil per year.
Good luck with the not bash him part lol.
Every single fan base has groups of fans that will do just that. It ain’t just the Who Dat nation. 😂

The restructure doesn't add any time to the length of the contract, but it does make it financially way less likely to let him go earlier (like, this year), which he may have been hoping for.

My guess (since these are all guesses) is that - This didn't add any new money or future security to his deal - It was existing money in his deal - And more than likely leads to this being his last year here in NOLA - By making it more palatable cap-wise to cut him next season.... Not exactly what you want to hear if you're a mid-level starting NFL QB.

I think that more has been made out to this than is actually there. If Carr doesn't want to be here, I don't see Moore hitching his wagon to Carr because he would have a very short career as a HC if that was the case. But I can also see Carr not wanting to stay with the Saints if they were going full rebuild and not trying to win, and I don't think it was clear early on which direction they were going. But it seems pretty clear than Carr and Moore are on the same page, even in nobody else is even reading the same book.

I thought his contract was for 2 more years regardless.
You might be right. I honestly didn’t check the full particulars of the restructure. But to the broader point that’s been mentioned - he probably wanted to be at a less palatable financial figure so he could get cut and move on with his life and career.

Always got a chuckle over your username, having no idea what it meant. Talking to a Canadian friend the other day and she said something about this, guess it’s a whiskey or some such? I’m not much of a drinker so had no idea, anyhow when I heard that I immediately thought of your username and was like “now I know, too cool!” 😂😂

Yes I’m a dork. 😂

I have zero against the guy but I too want him to move on with his life and career.

Can't have it both ways. Or his case all three ways.
