20 Dead in Arkansas Floods

Many more are missing at this hour. Water was rising 8 feet an hour at one point last night.

I camp up there about 2-3 times a year. This happens a lot, but never this many casualties. Beautiful place but VERY remote and dangerous in the wrong conditions. I have been caught in two flash floods up there, one of those times I had to wade out in chest-deep water.. Scared the hell out of me obviously. The thing about this area, is cell phones do not work, there is very little radio reception, so there is no way to know when something like that is coming.

When I used to be a Boy Scout we were taught to never ever set up in the low areas because of flash flooding. One time I actually did and I was lucky that my tent was just filled with water. Never made that mistake again.

Well that area is decieving because it does not seem low lying.. You go up a mountain to get there. The average camper prolly does not realize it's a valley. We always camp up on the moutain, and we still got flooded.

I just found out a friend of mine and his two you children died in this horrible flood. They were sleeping in a 5th wheel that was swept away by the rising river. This all seems so surreal.

Very sad to hear, prayers for their family. I heard the water rose 20 feet overnight.

my son goes to a small private school where we lost two little girls that were best friends in the same class of only 10 kids in that flood.
