I don't think I've ever seen a football team lose in the regular season, but stay ranked the same as the week before. LSU stays at #9. BCS bowl bid is almost assuredly out of our grasp as Alabama and Florida will get both, but a top ten finish to end the year is entirely plausible with a new years day bowl bid if we can win out. And if you asked any LSU fan before the season, that's pretty much about the best case scenario most of them would have hoped for. However if we lose to Ole Piss + Arkansas, the water could start getting pretty hot for Miles... I like our chances though to win out. What are your thoughts for the rest of the season? What would you classify as a success and/or failure for the year? We already know that we can't win the national championship, SEC championship or the Western Division SEC championship, but thought I would post this ranking to show that a top ten finish with a strong bowl is still possible. Years like this year are what I really love about the bowls. We may not actually win anything that means anything, but we can still finish the year on a positive note. I'd still rather have a playoff, but since we don't, I am going to enjoy trying to play for a top 10 finish with a solid bowl victory. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

The only thing I care about is direction. As long as this program is headed in the right direction, I have no gripes.

The ranking is nice, and so are 10 win seasons (which are not the indicator they once were with ULL, La Tech, Tulane on our schedule). To me the biggest thing is getting to the SECCG... if Miles does in either of the next two years great if not gone.

We also have West Virginia and North Carolina OOC next season (I think UNC is the bigger test) but unfortunately playing ULM and McNeese negates any strength our schedule gains by playing those two.

Explain to me why I care about the AP Poll again?

You proposing we should just end the season right now cause we no longer have a shot in hell of making it to the NCG, SECCG or win even win the West?

Face it, we don't have much to play for anymore, so now we are just playing for pride, bowl position and ranking. Doesn't really mean a whole heck of a lot, but it's all we got left man.

I just hope now Les Miles FINALLY starts developing some players for next year. Last night is exactly why I have been talking so much about how we needed to get Lee some more snaps. I knew it was only a matter of time before JJ went down and it was probably going to be during one of our biggest games in a key moment. I think I jinxed us, grrr.

how does usc get ranked ahead of oregon who pile drived them last week

and Ohio State is ranked above USC.... lol.....how can anyone take the AP Poll seriously...

I was expecting 9 wins this regular season for LSU, so if we can handle these injuries it looks like we'll get to that or to 10. IMO, it wasn't very likely for us to win the SEC with a 19 year old QB.

I like our chances next season with who we've got returning, though. Jefferson is going to have a full season of starting experience under his belt, Peterson and Toliver each have potential to be drafted very high, Russell Shepard's PT should go up, and the defense will have more time under Chavis.

I think more than anything some fresh talent in the defensive front 7, the offensive line, and Russell Shepard having a well defined role will help this team.

What the hell does that mean?

I want to know why I should care what the AP polls says? What does it sginify? It's holds less credence than the NY Times poll and slightly more than LC's Power Poll last I checked. Who cares?

Ummm... That a lot left to play for.

Yeah, because he's been sitting on his hands and wondering how this whole "football" thing is going to turn out for the last 18 months...

To echo some of your arguments slightly, I think with the low expectations people gave Auburn to begin this year, we have to be one of the SEC's surprise teams this year. Surprise in the sense that most NCAAF analysts had us pegged at another 5-7 or 4-8 record, but we've won 7 so far(as of yesterday) have a reasonably good chance to beat UGA next Saturday night, and we'll take the Iron Bowl when it gets to us, nothing too far ahead for us to think about. Going 8-4 with a bowl win on New Year's Eve gives us 9 wins, that's a successful season with a good future to build on for Auburn fans like myself.

It'd be Even better if we finish in the Top 25 at the very end.

Finally, someone with some sense and thinking realistically.

I think Bama is graduating over 20 starting seniors this year also.
