If the Saints had to use their 2nd pick for a TE what do you think would be the best option for us?

Fred Davis, USC

I think that Fred Davis is the best TE in the draft, so I would choose him, I don't want Shockey because he has bad character and is a lot older than any of the Rookies are, he just wouldn't fit in on the Saints. Davis gives us an athletic TE with a lot of potential and he has great character, just like Payton would want. Payton has done well with Tight Ends in the past, I think that Davis would become better than Shockey in a few years.

wouldn't fit in with tha saints? you do know that him and Sean worked together Shockeys 1st couple years in the league..which is a main reason that Sean wants him....

If Payton can keep him under control, which I don't think is possible, then I would be ok with it (but would still want Davis more). But I don't see us putting up with him for too long weather Payton worked with him in the past or not. Just because Payton wants him does not mean he would fit in anyway.

IMHO, Shockey is far and away the best choice for two reasons -

1. Experience - he is a known quantity. Any player taken in the draft is an unknown in the NFL.

2. He is a much better blocker than any of the 4 draft selections above. Davis is primarily a receiving TE. A TE in the Saints system MUST be a good blocker. None of those guys could hold a candle to Shockey in college, let alone the Pros. He is easily one of the best blocking TEs in the NFL today.

Clearly, IMHO, Shockey for a second is a much, much better deal than drafting ANY TE in this year's draft. And if I were to draft a TE for the Saints, it would probably be John Carlson out of Notre Dame. IMO, he is the most well rounded TE in the draft and the best fit for the Saints. I love Davis - he is just not a good fit for this team.

Bottom line - Shockey, in this scenario.

JMO.

it would be nice if we can get fred davis and shockey! Cause I kno for a fact Davis will be a nice tight end for whoever he play for

I accidentally voted for Fred Davis before reading the entire poll and seeing the option to trade for Shockey. That would be a no brainer, imo, if it could be done with the same pick that these other TEs would.

I'm not really too too crazy about spending a 2nd rounder on a TE, but I'd do it for a pro bowl vet.

Why do people who have never met Shockey pretend to know if Payton, who knows him and has worked with him, can control him?

Anyways, I like this thread because I really think our 2nd round pick will be used on a TE. We made a play for Shockey trying to use that 2nd so it shows we think the position is worth that, and we tried to bring in some FA ones, so it shows we think we could use an upgrade there. I think we'll either trade for Shockey or draft one of these four.

I vote, don't do it at all. Go defense. There are WAY too many defensive players that will be available at the 40 pick to pass up on. At least two DT and two LBs and many CBs if we don't go for one in the first round.
