Me: Football is about people and life. If you really, really read the 9 uncomfortable truths, through the eyes of a suffering Saints fan..........................it will blow your mind!

Ambitious people are a dime a dozen. Most people doubt themselves. All of us — in some shape or form — are stuck in la la land.

One of the most difficult yet useful skills is the ability to balance your aspirations with reality. A pessimist and an idealist both miss the point.

The point is to have optimism about your future but look at the state of society, your environment, and your circumstances without rose-colored glasses.

Many of these truths sit right under your nose. Intuitively you know they’re true, but facing them head-on means discomfort.

Success or failure in life comes from which type of discomfort you choose.

You can choose the discomfort of facing reality, making decisions to change, and having the difficult dialogue needed to do both.

You can also choose the discomfort of rationalizing your situation, lying to yourself, and making excuses.

The choice is yours. In my experience, and from what I’ve observed, taking the discomfort upfront can feel horrible in the short run but rewarding in the long run. Pushing it away with the avoidance of truth alleviates discomfort in the short term, but it always comes back and persists until you do something about it.

Take a look at the truths I’m about to share with you. Technically, they are my opinions. You’re free to disagree with them. Before you do, though, try to take a look at yourself and your situation honestly to determine whether you really disagree with me, or you’re just hiding.

1) I think the failed gambit of getting Pete a better QB, to make Pete a better play calling OC. Is an uncomfortable truth, we can fix right now. It is just way cheaper to keep the $140 million QB, than an OC, that was suspect last yr.

I am not saying a new OC will fix the problem, but it is the cheapest way to find out if Carr is a keeper or not.

Caveat: I'll pull for our team every week and recognize that we have a shot at the playoffs. That being said, I've finally (yes, a little late) realized that we're not the great team we've hyped since training camp. Lots of talk about poor game planning and coaching, but I offer that most of our players are just average. The hype about this team having too much talent to look so mediocre doesn't seem to hold water. I see other teams running free for big gains and I see our poor guys, when they make the catch, getting tackled immediately.
We have some good players, sure, but from top to bottom this is just an average team.

I love 'em all and wish the best. I hurt for the guys when they lose and celebrate when they win. Almost like my kids. But we're just not very good.

If we can get a couple of breaks then maybe. Who dat!

Exactly. That's the one glaringly obvious thing they can do to right the ship. Bring in a modern OC and let's see if he can get more out of Carr. If he can't then so be it, they'll have to find a new QB down the road. But you have to be able to admit your mistake and cut your losses. Don't be afraid to go in a new direction.

Sean Payton is gone. Just let it go. You went for continuity and it didn't work out. We get it. But when you refuse to accept reality, that's what gets fans ticked off. When you take away our hope and settle for mediocrity, that's what I can't abide. I'd rather they try something new and fail miserably than to act like nothing is wrong and keep going down this road.

You know your season sucks when things get philosophical on a football fan website lol. But, good article! Love the no excuses attitude.
Good one! One thing I can say is that, in the 'old' days, we'd have to get philosophical after two, make three games. This season, believe it or not, I'm still holding out for NFC South.

For me it's a lot simpler, I just don't care as much. I will probably always be a Saints fan, but the NFL in general has been spiraling down in the integrity department, to the point I just can't take it as seriously any longer.....It's simply entertainment.....

Agreed. I thought a lot about the No Call and how I would handle it if something like that happened to me IRL, wether I would accept it as “part of the game” or would be upset and act accordingly. I have little doubt it was food for court.
