31. New Orleans Saints

The Saints suffered a 30-22 loss to the Rams, which was actually lucky considering the Expected Score was 32-14 in favor of Los Angeles. That's why the Saints move off the bottom line and up one spot ahead of their big Week 17 game against NFC South rivals Tampa Bay.

By virtue of Tampa Bay ranking second, and New Orleans 31st with the Saints the unlucky team on the road, we have a Week 17 Luck Matchup that hits some major signals for the Saints.

I don't disagree. I was thinking that in 2009 we would likely have been the "luckiest" team in the league since we had a tendency to force turnovers and relied on big plays on offense. ---- The more I live life, the more I think the analytics crowd is on to ONE big thing. You are basically trying to tilt as many odds in your favor as possible and "control the controllables" --- In the NFL the worst team in the league on a 90th percentile "good" luck game is going to be enough to sway the odds even against a contender. It is why an undefeated season has happened ONE time in the NFL.

Undisciplined teams allow "bad luck" things to happen when they lose control of things within their control.

I mean, last night in the 9ers Ravens game --- Purdy's first interception was a bad throw. That is within your control and, in this metric, would be logged as "luck" --- but it isn't. Bad throw. Plain and simple. Fixable --- The next two I am less concerned about as a coach --- Sometimes you get a couple of bad bounces and that opened up the game against them.

The point of this is, to some extent, the Bucs may be living off some good bounces in recent weeks.

We.. clearly.. make our own luck.
Could not agree more. Planning, preparation, awareness - that's what's makes luck. If you don't want the ball to bounce the wrong way, don't drop it in the first place. If you want it to bounce to your way, be around it in the first place.

if its all "generated" the NFL will have the Saints beat the Bucs.. for final week viewership.. only to make it to where 1 single game prevents the Saints from the playoffs.. and that game will screw the Saints.
