The coach was asked that same question and he said that it is very difficult to grade Offensive and defensive lineman because of the position itself. Not being in pads. He said that they could get a better feel from the skill positions because of the fact that no hitting is allowed in these practices and that they will be better able to judge the linman once they fully suit up and start hitting. With that been said nothing has been written about Al Woods.

Yeah, right now the players with great speed and quickness get to shine. So your fast DEs, and all the skill positions all showcase what they got.

When there's live contact, then you can really see what the big uglies got.

You read my mind. You won't find out anything from the big guys until TC starts. Barring a miracle, I wouldn't expect too much out of a rookie DT. That position is full of late bloomers.

When he get the pads on then we will be able to see if Woods can bring the Wood.

Of all the rookies Woods stands the best chance to see the field right away. With Kendrick Clancy's retirement and the lack of depth at NT there's an opportunity for Woods. But his history as an immensely physically talented underachiever is worrisome. If he performs like he did at LSU then he'll be a career backup BUT if DL coach Bill Johnson and Gregg Williams can push the right buttons then Woods has all the tools to excel.

FWIW, I'll add something to this discussion. First and 2nd year DTs don't TYPICALLY set the world on fire. They usually take those 1st two seasons to get their techniques down and increase their base strength. Yeah, yeah, I know there are exceptions, but they're not the rule.

My point is that I don't expect much from Woods this year or next, but that I do expect Ellis and Pressley to have "breakout" seasons this fall, or they may not ever be able to do it. JMO.

I have a feeling woods might go the meachem route.

I wonder how his build looks as he gets professional training. He is amazingly athletic for his size, but even as of his senior year at LSU, still carries a decent amount of "baby fat." IF he could ever trim that down (some people just can't) can't imagine how athletic he might be then.

I have that feeling more with Brown. I doubt Brown gets few, if any, snaps this season. He'll likely be handled like Bushrod was during his first couple of seasons.

To me, Woods is a classic "boom or bust" pick. Very talented, yet he failed to live up to his potential at LSU. He's either going to step-up and dedicate himself to the game, or he'll be gone by next season. He'll make the roster this year regardless.

The BC center (Tennant) is the rookie to really watch once camp starts.

I'm excited about Tennant and Brown. Its been mentioned here already, but the possibility of Brown playing in those sets when we would bring in Strief as a tightend is interesting considering he has played some tight end.
