An 18 game regular season could be here sooner than later. (1 Viewer)

Slightly off topic but the article mentions a "late" Labor Day in 2026 I think. I have often wondered why the NFL does not begin the season until after Labor Day... Yes I know they give that weekend to College Football. But I am old enough to remember when the first games were on Labor Day and it was GREAT not having to get up on Monday...... Just musing

And as Commissioner for the Day why not have the SB on Saturday???????????????

Its getting pretty hard to watch as it is. Most teams are fielding nearly completely different teams by week 17. I wish theyd go back to 16. Its money, not player safety. Theres no feasible way to make this seem like its anything other than a money grab.

Either that, or increase roster sizes. Another idea, which would create an entirely new strategy...you play 18 games, but no single player can play more than 16. That way you can make it seem like player safety is involved. Players get 2 bye weeks, and 2 weeks where they cant play. If they are injured and miss a game, that counts as a 1 of the 2 games they have to sit out. Coaches would have to strategically know when to rest certain players for certain games which in itself would be a test of roster depth. Keeps 16 game individual records consistent as a byproduct.
