Antonio Pierce is now officially the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders! (1 Viewer)

Think they’re seeing ghosts from the last interim they should’ve hired. Don’t believe this works out for them. Last time they made a mistake, this time they’re trying to make up for that mistake.
Pierce produced winning results though so don’t see how it’ll be a mistake. He was the players’ choice because of performance and chemistry with the players. 5-4 record and was competitive in each game. 3 of the 4 losses was just one possession. They could’ve won those if O’Connell wasn’t the starting QB. He just needs to get a QB and a good OC.

Bisaccia was 7-5, and had a four game win streak to make the playoffs.

Unfortunately, he was outscored 89-23 in two matchups with the Chiefs, that plus the first round exit probably had Davis wanting to see what his options were.

Great move.

I think the way to go these days is an offensive head coach. It’s a lot easier to hang onto a top DC than it is a top OC. But…not my team. Leave those offensive guys for us next year.

With the early success of Pierce and Demeco Ryans, it would be interesting to see a new trend shake out:

A) Former players that gain the respect of the locker room

B) Dweebs that are brilliant offensive minds but no accolades from playing the game at a high level

Mike McDaniel comes to mind in the second category. I feel like it could include a lot more that never played above a JuCo/Div3 level.

Also it's nice to see coaches of color in the game when it doesn't seem forced by the Rooney rule. Gotta love unforced diversity.

Gonna be interesting. I'm sure AP was enticing to Davis because he was going to be cheap LOL . But this also sounds like a players hiring let's see what happens when the inmates make the decision

You got down-rated but you 100% know what you’re talking about as far as the cheap part. Cash flow is definitely a priority in that particular building right now, and they really couldn’t even afford to fire McDaniels, but they didn’t have much of a choice with the way things were going.

Not cool on the “inmates” part.

He's got some credentials I think are really unique for a head coach. He was a UDFA that rose to team captain, Pro Bowl player and Super Bowl champion. Plus, he drove Plaxico Burress to the hospital when he shot himself in the leg in the night club.

Add to that that he has a higher head coaching winning percentage than a lot of head coaches (cough, DA, cough) just from his time as interim coach. He went 5-4 down the stretch and had them with a chance to make the playoffs after the team imploded earlier in the season.

Will it be a good long term hire? It totally depends on who he surrounds himself with. But he has the leadership part down.
