April is National Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.

I figured with all these sad news storied of kids and babies dying or being severly neglected abused and mistreated I would bring this up. Wear a BLUE ribbon or pin during the month of April to show your support for Child Abuse Prevention.

After reading more of these tragic stories on the board I wanted to bump this and remind everyone to wear a blue ribbon or pin for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

While it's certainly sad when parents cross the line between discipline and abuse, all kids should get their ***** whipped from time to time. :17: Those beltings I got helped build character.

Exhibit A for why you should never hit your children.

:hihi:

Seriously, there is no reason to hit a child. There is no credible scientific evidence that hitting a child makes them grow up to be a better adult. If you are a person who chooses to live your life based on reason, logic and evidence then why do otherwise when it comes to raising your kids?

A parents job is to raise a well adjusted adult, not to have a perfectly behaved child that only acts that way for fear of corporal punishment. What happens when that fear is gone and they have to make their own choices without someone threatening to hit them if they choose wrong?

Finally, I can understand why some parents think that spanking is okay. It's not a choice I would ever make, but I don't think spanking, if done properly is a problem, but there is never a reason to hit a child with a belt.

As a final disclaimer, because I know this will turn into a "don't tell me what to do with my kids" thread, I'm not saying you don't have a right to raise you child how you want (at least within reason), but I am asking for people to do the research and see if there is any good evidence that hitting your child helps. I know none of you would buy a car without doing significant research. Don't you think your children deserve the same effort? And, if you have done the research and think hitting is the best choice for you, then I disagree with your conclusions based on the evidence, but it's your right to raise your child how you want.

You sound like one a dem namby-pamby liberales ( ). You're probably a feminist and don't approve of capital punishment and want to take our guns away and our rebel flags  . I know the kind...

I once asked my friend for a few pointers on how to raise a little one. How can you reason with a 3-year-old I asked him?

He said treat'em like a dog. When they do something bad... rub their noses in it.
