Another good article by Rene Nadeau on Saint's assistant Roushar and the quality of the Saint's offensive line. Very good insights on many of our great linemen!

The Saints employ an aggressive power step-type zone blocking scheme. In 2017, the team was second best in the NFL in total yards (6,259), fourth in points (28) and second in yards per game (391.2). The line also allowed 20 sacks in 2017, lowest in the NFC and second fewest in the league. New Orleans ran and threw the ball effectively.

“One of the things we are trying to emphasize in our zone scheme is the first step, putting us in a position to hit our target, get in on the right angle,” Roushar said. “And then from there we strive to bring our backside leg with power. We feel like our power is generated from the backside elbow, backside shoulder, backside leg and backside hip. Everything that we are doing now in both our wide zone and tight zone scheme is the same. Every premise and fundamental is built from that concept.”

It requires a rare breed to play on the offensive line. From a fan’s perspective, it is probably the most misunderstood position. It demands a great deal of discipline to play there. You must play with controlled aggression. Effort is vital. You are recognized more when you are the source of a penalty or missed block. You must block out all outside distractions and perform together with your linemates as a unit. [Click here for more.]

Let's show some love to the big guys! If they don't do their job, NOBODY else can do theirs. It all starts up front
