In his postgame interview:"It wasn't as competitive of a game as we needed it to be. Sean did a lot better job than I did. You have to give them a lot of credit, they’re a good football team, but that doesn’t lessen the hurt on our side. We have a lot of work to do to compete with a team of this caliber. They’re a lot better than us."

All in all, I thought his speech was really classy, and I have gained back a little respect for him because of it.

Also, relatedly, Tom Brady had this to say:
"They’re a great team and we didn’t play so well. There’s obviously a big gap between us."

Likin what I'm hearin.

Edit: And to add to it:

"They were better than we were in every phase of the game," Belichick said in the postgame news conference. "I don't know any other way to put it. They were better coached. They played better on offense, defense, in the kicking game, they covered better than we did. They were obviously the better team. You guys had to see that. You were at the game."

Having guys of that caliber saying those kinds of things are worth a billion times more than anything you'd hear a talking head on ESPN say. The Patriots know winning football and they know what champions look like.

A coach with a handful of rings and the creator of the previous dynasty just said that the Saints are an elite team. It smells good.

yeah, hearing that made me by far happier than anything ive heard all year. It really dawned on me just then what a superpower we've become/are becoming.

this team is all class, and that I have to respect,

Wow, i think i like this even better:

"They were better than we were in every phase of the game," Belichick said in the postgame news conference. "I don't know any other way to put it. They were better coached. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security by those sweet sounding words. If we meet them again, we'll have to be even better to win it.

Belicheck

Well i havent liked the pats since they did what they did to bledsoe BUT u have to give bill alot of credit for doin what he did with sean and drew aftger the game.these actions speak louder than anything they did this season.he actually went out of his way to congratulate drew brees and hug him and he did the same thing to sean payton.all i can say is wow u think mangini and ryan is jealous.u dont see this from bill belicheck at all people.obviously he has respect for our players.WHO DAT!!!!!!!!:9:

> I think they passed the torch to the Saints .

Passed it?!? Heck, you all took it from us and ran into the endzone! LOL

As much as I hate to do so, I must admit that I came away from this game with some respect for Bill Belichick where before the game it was hard to find even a morsel of it.

We had been given the image that BB was simply a 'cut-throat' who would resort to anything to add another 'W' to his record. His sincerity came through in his post game comments and expressions and I'm sure that his reputation as a top coach in this league is well deserved.

In the future I still wouldn't mind seeing the Pats lose a bit more than they have in recent years, but I'm sure there are a lot of New England fans who are thinking much the same about our Saints especially since Monday night's game.

Flattering words Mr Belichick. Thank you for your candor. :)

The respect and admiration of the team you just destroyed. The Saints have proven themselves to the nation and a three time champion team.

Yes, it was classy and just because of the class they showed for the Saints, I have to put them on a higher pedestal than previously.
