I'm on a quest to find the best Mexican / Tex/Mex Restaurant in the New Orleans Metro Area.

About every place I go to is gross. It seems to have the freshest ingredients. Most other places just don't seem to give a dang about quality or service. Just slap a hot plate with a pile of runny beans and rice and a mediocre main course. In New Orleans, the only one that I've liked is Taqueria Corona on Magazine Street. I pretty much just stick to that in New Orleans. I'd like other suggestions though.

I live on the Northshore so my choices are limited. I don't like Sombrero. I don't like Caretta's. I've had some decent meals at Mi Casa in Covington. El Portal is simply disgusting. George's in Mandeville is about the best fajita's I've ever had and they do seem to care about what is served. But I want better.

Thoughts?

Word. Juan's Flying Burrito rocks. Plus the atmosphere there is cool too. I miss New Orleans restaurants. (Currently living in BR)

fish tacoes at taqueria corona are great but man oh man juans for the win

Best Authentic Mexican: Taqueria Corona

Best Fusion Mexican (Tex/Creole-Mex): Juan's Flying Burrito

Best Mexican in Metairie: Casa Garcia

All three are very good and all 3 are different :9:

Oh Superior Grill is great, too.

Mis Padres on Airline in Prairieville is good. Check it out if you get a chance.

I work basically next door. (Was Mezza Luna, now gonna be Red Stick Bistro) Mis Padres CAN be good. It can also be terrible. And the service is AWFUL.

Both are great establishments.

Casa Garcia has some dominant beans and salsa for your tortilla chips.

No offense...Superior Grill should be called Inferior Grill...The place just sucks...Terrible service, terrible food...I've never had bland Mexican food until I've eaten there..

something i've wondered for a while-- are they under different ownership from the one in Shreveport? B/c i've heard bad things about the food at the NOLA location (can't remember how good/bad it was since it's been years since i hung out there, and mostly just went for the drinks) but i've eaten at the S'port one a few times lately and the food's great.

i went recently to the superior grill and was highly disappointed. bland food and bland service.
