Saban has won a national title.
But Tuberville has had an undefeated season - that is a wash IMO.
Tubs has 1 SEC championship, Saban has 2
Tubs leads head-to-head 4-2.
I'd say its close.
Tubs is better value, and has achieved perfection, I'll go with him.
ask ANY fan if they would rather a championship or a perfect season.... there is no way thats a wash!
Saban also has more SEC championships, and IMO that means more than the head-to-head match-ups, especially when considering a lot of those losses came while he was rebuilding programs (LSU and Alabama) but Tubbie already had his program at a high level.
Saban has accomplished much more with drastically less time in the SEC. The only thing that makes this close is that Saban torched his reputation and might be more likely to bolt his school. Judging by the last recruiting class, that hasn't affected his recruiting.
I have to vote for Saban. Tubbie is a pretty good coach, but never has made it to the next level. Even while Alabama was terrible, Tubbie couldn't really take advantage of it fully and dominate.
Regarding undefeated season vs championship: to be honest, Tubbs just had bad luck that yr b/c OU nad USC were preseason 1 and 2 and never lossed. LSU had 1 loss the yr they won it. I say it is a wash.
I believe that Saban is probaly the best coach but youve got to give Tubbs credit for going undefeated in the SEC, something Saban has not accomplished.
But Saban did beat OU in the championship game... Tubbs didn't play a championship game that year and beat lessor quality opponents. Squeeking by VA Tech in the bowl is a lot different than beating a very dominate USC team that year. Either way, call it luck or whatever you want, but Saban brought home the crystal ball... I'd trade a perfect season for a 1 loss championship season any day, and so would pretty much any other fan.
I give Tubbie his credit though, he's done a great job. I just gotta go with Saban on this one. Hopefully for Tubbs, Saban has damaged his reputation enough that they will at least be equal now. Guess we'll see.
I say that when LSU beat OU for the trophy that OU was a lesser quality opponent. No way should OU had played in that game.
EXtreme, the issue I have with that season is that Auburn never got a shot at the title. WE were laughed at, ridiculed, called not good enough to be in the title game. No matter what you think of the V-tech game, they low balled us and they gave us an insulting second place game next to the Title game. It angers me off that we busted our arses all that year, had a great team in Cadillac and Ronnie Brown, and Jason Campbell. We never got a fair shake and that in itself hurts. Auburn was screwed point blanked, even Bama fans admitted it later on to our own faces as well. The BCS went with the popular thing to do, it did not do the right thing.
Thats the truth and its hurts some people to say it or admit but its very apparent that we won those games and went 13-0.
