Now is as good a time as any to be forthcoming with an admission:
We've laughed at Charles Grant much more than we've laughed with him.
Not about the play of the Saints' fifth-year defensive end, because since joining the franchise as a first-round pick in 2002, it'd be a lie to say he hasn't produced. Entering the season his 30 sacks were more than any Saints' defensive player in that span, and if he hadn't gotten just 2 1/2 last season -- while still putting up a respectable 75 tackles -- his average of 7 1/2 a season, which is pretty good by just about anybody's standard, would be even better.
No, Grant mostly has made us giggle because, at times, he has been almost comically optimistic.
