A Bucs' article about where our Saints stand at this point in the offseason. For the most part... this guy sounds like he's a closet Saints fan... but of course he has to find fault at that end. It must have been difficult...

BIGGEST REMAINING QUESTION: WHO WILL DREW BREES THROW TO?
This may seem like a rhetorical question, but it’s not. Michael Thomas is great and Alvin Kamaracan run and catch and do both at the same time. Got it.

But can the Saints really continue to rely on these two to carry the load and catch the bullets?

In 2018, Brees threw for just under 4,000-yards and completed 364-passes to do it. More than half of those yards and completions went to Kamara and Thomas.

The third-highest receiver after those two was a running back who plays in Baltimore now (scroll up if you missed it). Tre’Quan Smith, who I assume is the favorite to be the second-receiver this year, caught 28 passes for 427-yards and five touchdowns.

Good numbers, but I feel like he’ll need to nearly double those if he’s going to legitimately draw some attention away from Thomas and Kamara.

New Orleans did draft Alize Mack from Notre Dame and he’s got some athletic upside as a tight end if he takes to NFL coaching really well.

I know it’s not something Saints fans are likely worried about, but it feels like the team is playing with fire.

One misstep or improperly planted foot by either Thomas or Kamara, and this offense is plum out of primary weapons.

The writer didn't acknowledge Jared Cook anywhere in the article... that's quite a "slip-up" there son.

I do sort of disagree with some of his other assertions.

Biggest Loss? He says Ingram.
IMO... I think Okafor is the biggest loss. Mainly because, unless Edwards plays a lot of DE rather than DT (and does it well), then we didn't really replace Okafor.

Biggest Gain? He says Malcolm Brown.
I sort of get it. But I'm going with Jared Cook. Cook is a bigger upgrade for last year's version of Watson than Brown is for Davison. Cook has the potential to be a game changer for our offense.

Not sure why you'd post an article from someone who isn't aware we signed Jared Cook.

I would have simply moved on at that point.

Well, it was on SR's home page. And I thought that some might get a kick out of the Bucs' writer who somehow either forgot or isn't willing to admit we have 3 pro-bowl receiving threats now, instead of only 2.

To be fair a ton of Saints "fans" seem to forget about Cook too. At least that seems to be the cased based on how some reacted to us not drafting a WR.

That thought crossed my mind too while I was reading this article.

Even with Cook, I still worry about the passing game.

I get it. Our passing offense went flat towards the end of the season, but it picked back up once Ginn returned to the line-up. Going at it with only 2 real receiving threats wasn't enough, even if they were pro-bowl caliber. But once we had 3, everything looked okay.

This year we'll have 3 pro-bowl caliber receiving threats plug Ted Ginn. And I have to believe that at least one of the young guys steps up at least some.
