We all heard the possibility that Carr wanted out...here are more details from CBS. They quote Nick Underhill who says "the Saints are in the quarterback business."

The New Orleans Saints restructured Derek Carr's contract this offseason, all but ensuring the quarterback will remain with the team through the 2025 season. That doesn't mean all is well between the two sides. Carr sought a trade before reworking his deal, according to NewOrleans.Football, and his relationship with the Saints remains "tenuous at best" as the club scouts potential quarterbacks of the future.

This comes weeks after previous reports indicated Carr had interest in exploring his value on the open market, though the Saints apparently had no desire to release or trade the veteran. In turn, Carr publicly admitted he would be unwilling to take a pay cut, and the two sides ultimately agreed to redo his four-year, $150 million deal, pushing tens of millions into future seasons.

This will not end well.

It can only end well, he's gone and we get the start a new chapter.

Unsurprising. The writing was literally on the wall just as obvious as DA being an awful HC hire.

Seems like the cap space we have now is to help remedy the issue in some manner.

Right now I’m getting the knee jerk reaction impression that Dart will be the play @9 unless Jeanty drops to us. I’ll have to think more on it.

Hope this isn't the reason for reaching 3 - 4 rounds early on a guy like Dart.... this only makes it worse when Dart fails....

It’s pretty obvious that he doesn’t want to be here anymore after not even showing up during the week of the Super Bowl.

The fanbase never warmed up to Carr and even cheered for Taysom Hill during a game in the dome. His HC Dennis Allen is gone and then you add MT and Olave’s brother talking smack as well. There’s just a bunch of negativity surrounding Carr and he probably feels he’s played pretty well while here (which he has) and even fought through injuries to play. It also sounds like he was approached to take a pay cut. He probably doesn’t feel appreciated.

It’s time to move on as the situation is just completely sour and if he doesn’t want to be here, then Loomis needs to figure this mess out somehow.

Yep. Saw this and posted in another thread earlier.

Anyone could see that he’s been wanting out, anyone except those who need it written in the sky lol.

It’s unlikely now but I hope he gets his request granted, don’t want a QB who doesn’t want to be here.

Nothing against him at all, he isn’t the reason our team has sucked the last few seasons, and I don’t blame him for wanting out.

He will have to wait until next year at this point.
Nothing the team or Carr can do to get it done this season, at this point? Post June 1st maybe? Asking as I’m not good with all the cap stuff and I know you’re very good with it.

Yep. I remember when we were told that we were reaching…..good times. 😂 You have to read the tea leaves in life, read between the lines. It was exceedingly simple to do in this case.

Hoping that they don’t take Dart at 9. Maybe at 40? Or move up a few spots in the second if they feel the need to.

There’s been over a dozen mocks in the past week putting Dart at 21 to PIT:

Jaxson Dart mock draft database

He’s pretty much a lock to go in the first right now. If they DO decide he’s the guy they should either:

Trade back to the mid teens and take him before SEA(also projected to possibly take him at 18) and pick up a couple of day 2 picks OR just take him at 9 if all else fails.

He is not going to last to 40

Dart will be long gone by then

As I said in another thread, I don't think this is personal at this point, just business. Carr knows his most prominent supporter (DA) is gone, and Moore will eventually want his guy. On the flip side, the Saints could have said fine, take a pay cut so we can trade you and Carr said no, knowing he's not going to get what we are paying him on the open market.

Agreed. We would have still had a hefty dead cap charge but if he really wanted to go he had opportunities to lower the cost to make it happen. Now suck it up and play ball. But the fans don’t need to boo him at games like they love to do. That makes us look bad. Support him for 17 games then we move on.
