I guess I have not been paying attention--I often don't until the first preseason game when I can actually see the players against another team--but I just saw in Jeff Duncan's piece running on the home page for SR that Vaughn has a meniscus tear. When did he get it? And how long is he out?

Per Payton's presser:

Chip Vaughn - we're waiting to see on this. He has a little meniscus tear. It's not real big but it has caused some swelling and some knee pain and we'll have to examine it further."

Which knee is it on Vaughn?

"It's his left knee."

Depends on whether or not he gets surgery. In the case of pro athletes, they usually do. The type of surgery he gets will be dependent on the type of tear he has. If it's in a part of the knee that gets sufficient blood flow and can heal, it'll be repaired, which means a longer recovery time. If it's in a place that doesn't get blood flow, the loose flap of cartilage will get cut out and he'll be back in a couple weeks. If it's the former, they may wait until after the season to do the surgery.

reggie tore his miniscus in carolina last year and was back for the tampa game a few weeks later
