Why have it? Isn't it one of the most backwards things a fan can have? If some other SEC school would have made it to the NC then 99% of the LSU fans I know would have rooted for the SEC school to win, even if it was Alabama, Auburn, or Georgia. I mean seriously WTH people?

My team is my team and everyone else in the conference can eat a brick and choke for all I care.

I guess if the Saints don't make the playoffs/deep into the playoffs then whoever else from the NFC South should be the team to cheer for?

Absolute crap.

Go Hawaii!! :worthy:

I agree actually. I hate the teams in our conference for the most part, particularly Hawaii. I hope Georgia stomps a giant mudhole in their ***. Only negative being it would somewhat "put our conference in its place vs an SEC (SEC SEC) school".

Which wouldn't be such a big deal if people put their school first, then most everyone else, then conference teams last like you're supossed to.

Really threw me for a loop with "Conf. Pride". I read that and the first sentence and just could not figure out what "Confederate Pride" had to do with sports...silly me.

I understand both sides of the argument. Having other schools in your conference win against other conferences makes your own school look that much better if you beat that conference opponent or played well against them yourself, then again, it's that opponent you despise.

Personally, I want all the SEC teams in bowl games to win.
A - It doesn't affect LSU any more because the season is over and a win can't give the other schools a leg up on mine in the standings anyway.
B - It does make my school look better if Auburn, Florida, Bama, Tennessee, etc., etc. whack their opponents from the other conferences.

Having said that, I had a very hard time with last year's NC game because I do despise UF. They are the one SEC team I really just can't stand, so I was kind of torn. I wanted the SEC to look good for the reasons noted, but the whole time I just kept thinking, "Why did it have to be Florida, for crying out loud?"
In a way, I was disappointed they won, especially after having won the basketball tourney, even though I don't care for Ohio State either and certainly didn't want them to win because I despise the entire Big 10 as an entity (largely because they live on the past and their headman is the biggest obstacle to a playoff system ever happening), even though I have a soft spot for Penn State. I just knew UF people would be insufferable afterward (because they're insufferable even when they don't win anything), so it was hard to swallow either way.

Where was I going with this? Oh, yes. I agree and disagree with you wholeheartedly!

I think, in general, conference success boosts your team up. If you don't think LSU benefited from the perceived SEC dominance to jump teams and get into the NCG this season you're crazy. You root for teams in your conference because the better the conference, the better your team looks if you're having a successful season.

To add to that, I think that to many the SEC represents "southern football," and there's nothing wrong with taking some pride in that.

Well, for arguments sake (and i'm kind of thinking "out loud" here), I think it might be a little bit different when you're a fan of a mid-major school. It's easy to hate all the other teams in your conference if you're school is in the ACC, SEC, Big X/XII/East, etc because you know that you're pretty much at the top tier of college athletics and if you have a great season, the opportunities are going to be there for you.

When you're on the outside looking in at the BCS and you're not one of those top top programs, sometimes the success of other schools in your conference is also a success for your school. Nobody is going to not take the SEC seriously, or the Big XII. Not really. But the more seriously mid-majors have their conference taken, the more likely it is that they can gain the inside track on moving up. For example, when the whole BigEast/ACC/CUSA realignment went down in 2003 and the Big East drew from CUSA to gain more members, a couple of schools really benefitted from how competitive CUSA had been the previous few years. Sure, Louisville had made a name for itsself mostly on its own accord, but Cincinnati and South Florida hadn't done much of anything up to that point in football, yet here they are now in a BCS conference.

It's more or less a conflict of interests from my standpoint I suppose. I don't like rooting for anyone in our conference because I want us to be the best, but at the same time our administration sucks and we might need to ride some coattails at some point. :hihi:

Being in a transplant city like Vegas I constantly run into fans from every conference. I have to hear how the PAC 10 is the best conference or the Big 10 is far superior than the SEC.

I pull for SEC schools in the bowl games. I want them to win every out of conference game period. Does it change minds? No, but it kills the argument for at least that year.

A- Doesn't it affect LSU in that it makes other schools who are competing with you for recruits look better? Long term wins are always built on a steady pipeline of good recruits. If some of your recruits go off to other ESS EEE CEE Schools then that screws you.

B - I guess it might make your school look better, but I just can't take pride in the enemy taking a W, unless of course it is beneficial for my team.

Of course this is all a hypothetical argument right now as LSU is in the NC, but is still applicable in most given years. IE see last year when most LSU fans were so happy about Florida's win. :puke:

Careful what you wish for. If LSU just gets by tOSU and Hawaii blows Georgia out of the dome then I'm willing to bet we will hear about a split NC.

Personally I hope everyone in the SEC kills their opponent in the bowl games and root for the SEC in out of conference games unless that team is in direct competition with LSU. When the SEC wins games it makes LSU's strength of schedule stronger. The stronger our schedule the higher our computer ranking. If everyone in the SEC was getting killed all year by out of conference opponents and small schools then LSU wouldn't be playing for a championship this year.

I root for the SEC in the bowl games because I want the SEC to be the best conference in the country. The best conference gets the most attention. The more attention the more nationally televised games the more nationally televised games the more top notch recruits we get.

Do I like Florida, Auburn, Tn, Georgia, etc? Hell no, but I like LSU more than my hatred for the those teams so in the best interest of LSU, geaux SEC!

That would be fine by me. I think it would be funny, although I don't think there's much of a chance that Hawaii will be able to match up with Georgia, especially on defense. Boise's team last season was different I think. Hawaii doesn't have the D and the athletes on D to keep up. I mean Christ, we put up 44 on them and took them to overtime, then got shut out by Ole Miss :)mad:)

+1

In the past I was like the original poster a rooted against other SEC teams.

However since the BCS and writers/other fans feeling like you have to justify everything your team does it helps when other teams that you played in conference go out and smash teams in other conferences. It also works for teams my played that season. I hope Virginia Tech goes out and whips there bowl opponent as well.

I have trouble pulling for LSU under any circumstance and Tennessee under most. The rest of the SEC doesnt really bother me too much.
