Has anyone accomplished this? I have a Generac GP5500 I bought for Issac and buying gas was a pain. Wife was pregnant, so I ran that thing a lot. Looks like there's a conversion kit to make it natural gas. $250, bit pricey, but sure beats trying to find gas. How difficult is this to do? I know it voids the warranty. Any safety issues?

I am looking at this kit. IMPCO Low Pressure Propane Kit Generac Generator GP5000 GP5500 GP 5000 5500 LPG | eBay

Does not look too bad. Hardest thing will probably getting the natural gas lines ran to the generator.

I have never done one so I can't offer much help. Why would it void the warranty? I know there are units designed to run on LP or natural gas.

Here is a decent install video that may help you.

Generac states on their site it will void the warranty. They have a 2 year warranty on the motor and alternator, so this is a tough decision. We have natural gas for our hot water heater and I've never heard of anyone losing it after a storm.

I was going to convert mine as well, but after talking to a coworker decided against it. He'd done it and says that it was extremely difficult to keep running. He wound up just buying a system designed for natural gas from the start.

YMMV
