I’m not disagreeing with that, but I also don’t think it moves the needle as much as some others do. It’s been the general understanding for awhile that the Saints were very likely searching for Carr’s replacement and ideally, would want to start that process this season. They’ve been linked to Ward, Sanders, Dart, Shough, and Ewers in different scenarios, long before anything came up about Carr’s shoulder. About the only way I wouldn’t see them taking a QB early is if they like Rattler a lot more than is known, but I wouldn’t expect them to put that kind of faith in him at this point.

The strangest thing about it to me is that the Saints haven't been gushing about Rattler to everyone who will listen. It seems that would be the best way to try to convince people you aren't necessarily going to take a QB early.

I don’t see it discussed much but given all the attention put on them drafting a QB, maybe they want that to be the perception? For all we know, they might prefer an immediate impact player in rd 1 and will settle on a QB somewhere else in the draft?

That's the only thing that makes sense to me. They want teams to think they are taking a QB at #9 so they are fine with teams thinking that Rattler is not an option. It would fit if they want someone to trade in front of them to take Sanders at #9 to push a good player down to them. Then they would be good to take Dart, Milroe, or Shough late the the first or at #40.
