I know it's preseason and Lawrence is a UDFA who has played against the 2nd and 3rd stringers but the way he plays reminds me a lot of Nick Fairley .... The way he pushes the Oline back is so impressive .... If he can play good against the run, I think he might steal the 4th Defensive Tackle position from BROMLEY who currently seems to be the favorite ... Just loved watching his film.

Bromley was/is the last resort in case the young guys didn't look good. Lawrence and Stallworth are both ahead of him IMO.

In pretty sure he was in on some snaps against their ones and he still looked really good

One thing for sure: I feel confident about whoever Coach Ryan Nielsen has at the top of his list.

Dude is dope as a coach!
sssshhhhhh!!!! .... dont speak about coach Nielsen ... some other team might want to interview him as a Defensive co-ordinator ....

Like I said in another thread, the battle among the DTs for dat 4th DT spot is one to watch. I liked Bromley because at 6’3, 315 lbs, he’s got the size of a natural 1Tech, which I think is a bigger need. At 6’2”, 294, Dev is more of a 3tech. But I couldn’t find any other measurements on him, esp arm length. Thats important for me, because what I did find is that he put up 31 reps on the bench. If his arm length is 33in or better, that’s impressive! If they’re 32 or less, not as much, because shorter arms makes bench reps a lil easier. Nevertheless, safe to say, the guy’s pretty strong. But can he play at 1Tech, against the run, where he has to hold up against double teams?

That said, I like his game! He’s got a really good motor, stays active, and plays hungry n nasty. And while I’m no expert, I think he has a lil bit of a “twitch”in his game.

Or as SP put it, “He’s an explosive guy”!

Lawrence’s college coach (IIRC) likened him to Geno Atkins talent wise. That’s high praise right there.

Yes he is. He has certainly impressed me with the play he has gotten out of our guys. Even Cam is playing better than he ever has.

Allen, Nolan, Nielsen, and Glenn have made a HUGE difference in the way our defense plays. Sure, we added talent, but it seems to me that they know how to turn that raw product into polished NFL players. I've been surprised and pleased.

As far as Lawrence, I'll be shocked if he isn't in the 53. He has stood out in a group of DTs that all have played well. He is a sleeper that will have an impact this season. Color me impressed with this guy. I've been singing his praises since the first pre season game.

I'll be sad if Devaroe doesn't make the 53. He looks like a good one.

Devaroe is ballin' like a man possessed! I think Lawrence and Trey H. are ready to make some noise. Hope Devaroe stays beastly and makes the team. I get the Nick Fairley comp, but to me, Lawrence reminds me of a super sized Anthony Hargrove. Similar twitch, get off, and power at the POA, but in a 300 plus pound body.

We’re keeping at least 9 linemen, and maybe 10. We’ve never kept less than 9 that I can see, outside of 2013 and 2014 when we were a base 3-4 defense. I only bring it up because a lot of people seem to think we’ll only keep 8.

DE

Jordan
Okafor
Hendrickson
Davenport
Kikaha/Johnson

DT

Rankins
Onyemata
Davison
Lawrence
Stallworth/Bromley

This wouldn’t surprise me.

Mine would be:
Jordan
Okafor
Hendrickson
Davenport
Loewen
Rankins
Onyemata
Davison
Lawrence
Bromley/Stallworth (if we keep 10)

@Slaw

Fair enough, you might be right that Loewen is ahead of Kikaha and Johnson. I think we only keep 9 if Loewen makes it, since he can play inside or out.
