If we take a step back and review the first half of the season and formulate an opinion about what will happen the rest of the way what do we see?

Dreaming - I think we avoid suspensions to Deuce, Will and Charles. Reggie comes back against KC, Marques regains form, and D continues to improve including our underperforming secondary. Offense continues to roll. We win @Atl, @KC, GB, Atl, @Det, Car Lose: @TB, @Chi

Reality - Suspensions avoided until game 11 - Defense continues to struggle in coverage, KK and Roman Harper continue to get beat. Offense still dominate but not enough to overcome pourous defense.
Wins: @KC, Atl, @Det, Car. Losses: @Atl, GB, @TB, @ Chi

So where do we go? I say DB keeps us in contention until week 13. We are 7-6 rolling into Chicago. If we beat the Bears we run the table and finish 10-6 and claim the last playoff spot. Unfortunately Chicago has been our undoing the last 2 years. We lose in the windy city and split the last 2 to finish 8-8.

What do you think?

I think the bye week came at a great time. It's already been a roller coaster season. We've been hovering near .500 the whole way but have yet to go a game over since Week 1's win.

However, where we sit at 4-4 this year, mentality wise, is much better off than it was sitting at 4-4 a year ago, considering the circumstances. Digging all the way out of the 0-4 hole took a huge mental and emotional toll on the players, based on everything I read, and the loss to 0-8 St. Louis pretty much was where everything unraveled.

This year, though, it's been a half-season of close calls. A few breaks here and there and we're 6-2, 7-1. But we're not, and I know that. But I've seen some posts here and there either alluding to or outright saying we're pretty much the same team as last year. And it's hard to argue with that. However, last year's team hunkered down and fought all the way to the end because they really do want to win. So I have no reason to believe this same team won't be in the playoff race the last day of the season, if we haven't already secured a spot by that time.

So my predictions, so to speak:
Two wins out of the gate against ATL and KC
Loss to GB on MNF in another close penalty-and-bad-call filled game.
Rebound wins against Tampa and Atlanta.
Loss to Chicago as we still try to solve Soldier Field.
Win at Detroit and revenge game against Carolina.

10-6.

Oh, and dreaming: Defense watches hours and hours worth of game tape these two weeks off, takes matters away from Gibbs and into their own hands, and plays up to the talent that's there on paper.

I like this thinking. When will SP realize his buddy, GG is the problem.

Whenever Loomis tells him "It's him or you".

The offseason is usually my worst nightmare during the season, but with that comment I'm kinda optimistic about this offseason :ezbill:

I was having a conversation with my friend who's an Eagles fan earlier today & we were talking about how it sucks that our teams are in the 2 strongest divisions in the conf' becasue we agreed that both our teams likely go 10-6 this season but it may still not be enough to get us either the division or a wildcard with the level every team in both divisions are playing at.

I'm hoping this year is finally the year we take down the Bears, I don't think I can take another heartbreaker in the windy city!

If we fire Gary Gibbs, sign JV, Jahri and a top FS in free agency, then draft a RB or safety in the draft I'll consider this a successful offseason.

Asomugha is a free agent this coming offseason. I suppose we can file landing him under "dreaming".

I think I'll play it by ear, and if it goes well-- or not-- I'll enjoy my beer.

You can only tag your own players. He will probably get hit with it again, but there may be some drama surrounding the money he wants vs. what Oakland is willing to pay him.

Dreaming : Gary Gibbs is hired as head coach of the Raiders , and promptly franchises Namdi then trades his rights to the Saints for Jason David , Scott Shanle , and Josh Bullocks .

I'm all about getting rid of Gibbs, and have been forever! But why be optimistic about the draft with hardly any picks! I hear ya though. Why cant we just get to the Superbowl? It hurts being a Superfan!
