Eagles Defense vs Falcons: A Twitter Thread (1 Viewer)

This looks very promising. This could be a play action bonanza. And what's with the two stand up edge rushers? Is that their thing? I'm used to seeing one stand up edge rusher but two? With only two down linemen it seems like you're leverage is cooked as soon as the ball is snapped.

Every game is different. The Eagles will come in with a completely different gameplan. You can throw this stuff out the window.
This.

The things a team struggles with the most in one game are the things they work hardest at correcting the following week.

So unless they’re physically incapable (or their coaches are awful), I fully expect that element to be much better and we’ll have to execute at a higher level than the Falcons did.

Yeah that was my first thought. They are going to be improved and fired up but what if it's a scheme problem? What if they don't have the Jimmys and the Joes to execute the Xs and the Os? They were good against the run last year but awful against the pass. And this isn't the vaunted front 7 they're used to in Philly. They've lost some key dudes over the past few years.

I'm sure they'll find their footing and look much better this week but it's possible that they simply aren't very good. They still look good on paper. Probably pretty good on Madden. Sometimes that doesn't translate. We'll see.

The caveat to that is, now that they've faced the same scheme 2 weeks running I expect them to attack it differently. I wouldn't put too much into what they did vs ATL

Dennis Allen said in a recent presser that he watched most of the Philly-Atlanta game and came away with the impression that both defenses had trouble stopping the run, and both teams were able to run the ball effectively, which is the biggest takeaway I got from watching that game (except for the last couple of minutes, which is another story). I trust Kubiak to come up with a good plan to exploit Philly's run defense. The tougher part will be Allen coming up with a way to control Hurts, who has killed his defenses in the past.

I agree, but would add that they also must stop or slow down Barkley. We haven’t been tested to date in the run game so I hope our front 7 can play stout.

This is why you throw the match-ups out the window. They just don’t tell you anything in the NFL. Situations are far more predictive.

When the Eagles lost at the last second against the Falcons, we were always going to get a completely different team.
